We the undersigned residents of Islamorada hereby Petition the Village of Islamorada to halt any further contract agreements or purchases in regards to the Islamorada Wastewater System and instead rapidly evaluate, decide on and move ahead with either creating the Upper Keys Wastewater Board by joining with the existing Key Largo Wastewater Board Members along with new Board Members from Islamorada to create the new Upper Keys Wastewater Board to handle all wastewater issues for Key Largo, Tavernier and all of Islamorada or as an alternative to find one private company to come in and take over the entire project including design, construction and operation on a flat bid price, not being run by the Village of Islamorada but instead being privatized.
We request that no commitments be made on any further contracts or expenditures on the Islamorada Wastewater System so that none of those commitments will stand in the way of moving the management of design, development and operation of the Islamorada Wastewater System out of the hands of the Village Council and Village of Islamorada Government and placing it fully in control of the new Upper Keys Wastewater Board or Private Company.
We further request that this process be expedited and that the Village of Islamorada hand over the entire Islamorada Wastewater Project to one of the two above entities no later than September 1st, 2009 as to avoid additional wasted tax payer dollars and time on a system that has continued to be a failure and continues to grow more and more costly with each passing month.

The level of engagement this petition has received confirms that our community demands greater accountability regarding the management of our wastewater infrastructure. This momentum indicates that the current path taken by the Village is no longer acceptable to the public.

The village council has proved they cant handle this project. Costs are through the roof and we have nothing to show for it.

Get it out of their hands before they waste another cent of our money. Serious mismanagement going on here.

Enough with the bureaucracy. Just hand it over to people who actually know how to run a utility.

Seems like every time they touch this thing the price doubles. Privatize it so we can finally stop worrying.

We need a board that actually focuses on the wastewater and not just politics. This has been a nightmare for us residents.
