A later start time will prevent students from engaging in extra curricular activities and will also put a longer travel time to their already long day. Releasing them at 4:30 is peak rush hour time. Payton is one of the top schools in the city, they got it right doesn't make sense to interfere with a system that is so successful.

It is critical that students be able to pursue both their academics and extra curricular activites. With the extended school day, student in athletics will need to choose between their sport and the final period of the day when tutoring typically occurs. This is not fair to the students- especially those that travel long distances to their high school of choice.

This proposed shift in the school schedule for Payton and other schools will have a large negative impact on the students and their families. The CPS needs to look elsewhere to achieve savings or find additional revenues. The change in schedule is a very bad idea!

Very bad idea. This will have a detrimental effect on all the children and this is who they should be looking out for. These children stay up til 11 or 12 doing homework now they will stay up from 1-2am.

Please do not change the start and end time of Payton!!!! Several students engage in after school activities which can diminish due to change of school hours. Please keep HS hours the same as in the past and consider changing elementary instead.

Do not change what is not broken. Students throughout the city deserve the respect they have earned with the way they lead their lives; balancing school and home and their extracurricular activities.

This change is very inconvenient for families with pick up obligations at two or more schools. It makes for a very long and late commute.

I do not understand the purpose of changing the start and end times of these schools. If we are talking about end times in order to extend instruction hours, the benefit would have been debatable, but just shifting the hours forward in my opinion has no benefit to both the students, parents and teachers. Let's stick to what is working.

CPS should reinstate the regular start and end times for Payton students. The proposed 9 - 4:30 school day is significantly worse for students at this school, who travel from across the city to get there.and would encounter extended rush-hour commutes. It also severely compromises afterschool and extracurricular activities that are part of student life and learning.

The proposed later school day will negatively impact after-school activities, and cause students to begin their homework later in the day causing them to stay up even later into the night, resulting in a more sleep deprived and less productive student body.

My son takes two buses and a train to and from school, plus he is a 2 sport athlete. With the new start and end time he be be coming home around 8:30 ( that would just be on practice days - game days would be much later than that

The proposed action will have a significant negative impact on Payton extracurricular activities while providing minimal realized budget relief based on Payton's current limited CPS bus ridership.

My daughter attends Payton and has sports practices everyday after school. The later start (and end) time will make it very very difficult for her to get her homework done before very late at night.

This is bad for our kids. 430 is too late for homework and works well for our kids.

I am a parent of two Payton students (a rising senior and a sophomore) and also the parent of a recent Payton graduate. Changing the start and end times of the Payton school day would be extremely detrimental to our students' health, education and growth. It will make it more difficult and time-consuming to get to and from school; it will significantly hamper our students' ability to participate in active school activities; it will require either less sleep, less family time or less time for homework because of the late hour students will be getting home. It is an all around bad idea that was not well thought out. Payton is consistently among the best performing high schools in the state. Please leave the school start time where it is.
