These changes will be affecting the students most as well as their families. After school programs will suffer including sports

Close the TIFs and return the $1.7 billion to CPS, mental health clinics, and jobs programs.

Perhaps CPS should take into consideration the needs and desires of students, families, and teachers. The people making these decisions won't be changing their work hours.

This bell schedule change means that my son now has to give up participating in his club sport - rowing - after four years. This is disgraceful!

Most likely negligent. When a child gets hurt for traveling so late in the winter and CPS is sued the schedule will change again. Lane Tech is NOT changing... Because they don't want to. Taft HS has 6 busses of 7th and 8th graders who are bussed and ONE bus of 20 special Ed kids who are bussed. If YOU want your kid to go to a magnet school YOU need to get them there. Cancel ALL busses except for special Ed.. You will save more money and no schedule changes are needed.

I'm a student attending Whitney Young this coming school year. I believe changing school times would seriously affect thousands of CPS students, because they take public transportation. Yes, I'm aware that it could save money, but that would mean less school time, less education, which result in poor or lower scores. Students need this time for proper teaching, not rushed classes or shorter classes. A lot of students really take our free education seriously, we don't want less of it. Thanks for reading.

My daughter attends Walter Payton and participates in after school activities. Starting the school at such a late time will negatively impact athletics and other extra curriculars which are a vital part of the high school experience. Please reconsider.

Why should the kids pay a price for the city's bad policy?

This decision is a potential disaster for both students and commuters. Just because the bell goes off at 4:30 does not mean that's when the students leave school. Thinking of Payton, has anyone at CTA attempted seem the NB Brown Line platform at Chicago during the commuter rush? It's packed - mostly due to the inability to board already-packed trains. The same applies to students attempting to board a NB Red Line train at Clark/Division. Personally, as a Lincoln Square resident, I dread what may happen to the already highly-dysfunctional Western buses.

Please put the needs and well being of the children first.

With the way the CTA operates in this time frame already why would CPS think it's good to throw Elementary and High School kids in this mix? The most likely outcome are these students (ESPECIALLY the younger ones) getting caught up in confusion, getting off track or lost, plus a whole boatlad of ohter problems that could come about. How was this not thought through more thoroughly? Did tehy not survey or consult the parents of the children who would be affected? This is ridiculous.

How are sports teams going to schedule games when some schools will have to travel to the suburbs in rush hour traffic to compete? All around bad idea!

This is such a terrible idea.

This city is becoming absolutely disgusting and is about to implode on itself. This is just the latest in desperate attempts to "fix" the city, when the only fixes have been for the disjointed, far-removed officials sitting in a cushy office. You are ruining the city and the lives on its (99%) citizens.

Terrible, ill conceived decision clearly made by people who don't commute via CTA.

I don't think CPS has thought through all the possible outcomes of a decision like this. Typical.

I do not support the later start time for CPS schools.
