This is a terrible idea for both students and commuters. It's unrealistic for working families. It allows even less time for families to be together.

This change makes no sense. There is nothing to support the purported reason that it will save money and it will have a negative impact on the students.

I'm a student attending Whitney Young this coming school year. I believe changing school times would seriously effect thousands of CPS students negatively, because they take public transportation. Yes, I'm aware that changing times would save money, but that would mean less school time, less education received daily, which results in poor or lower scores. Students need this time for proper teaching, not rushed or shorter classes. A lot of students take our somewhat free education seriously, we DON'T want less of it. The Board of Education created this budget problem, therefore they should be able to fix without causing catastrophe. Thanks for reading.

This change negatively affects all CPS students but none more so than students who can least afford the change: those who have school commutes of more than an hour, those whose families depend on them to care for younger siblings after school while parent(s) work, those who rely on after-school clubs, athletics, and academic support to increase their chances of securing college placement and scholarships, and those students who have after-school jobs in order to contribute to their family's welfare and to save money for college.
CPS's ill-conceived plan ignores the needs of its students, the people CPS is supposed to serve.

This is more CPS silliness. "expected savings of $9.2M" ... reallly?? This move will cost 100x more in hard costs and damage to the kids and families. Plus, think about the effect on city traffic and public transportation. I suggest keeping the schedule the same and just reducing busing to special needs only.

My child takes public transportation to get to school, as do the majority of the students attending Jones. To say the later start time will save the school money because of bus costs is ridiculous. How will my child continue to attend the after school programs & clubs if they start before Jones school day ends? Please reconsider

Bring back the normal school start times! This interferes with normal parents who work.

I believe that the CPS decisionto change the start-end of schools is both unfair and illogical, when it comes to the daily routine of the students attending these schools.

It is completely absurd to make students leave school so late. Many have long, dangerous commutes that would be even worse if it is dark outside. During winter in Chicago, that can be as early as 4:45pm. This change won't only harm many of the essential elements that make Payton the school it is but endanger students on their way home.

The author of this decision must be living out of Chicago in a well secure neighbor who is not aware that Chicago is not only one of the larges cities where crime rate is elevated and was only thinking for themselves caring less about the safety of our children and putting them at risk. Not only this decision conflict in their extra activities after school, but disrupts the families. My child as well as many others who have the honor to attend one of the best schools in Illinois must commute from the loop to the southwest side where many crime incidents have been reported highly during dark hours at CTA train locations and bus. This make it more at risk for children to commute home safely. It also decreases the hours for their homework assignments and sleep needed to perform well in their academic courses.

Very self-fish move from CPS; these schedules change cause huge disruption in our communities.

Return the times. This change is detrimental to the kids and their families. Later ending times prevent many fom participating in after school sports and clubs as they cannot meet up with other schools that get out earlier. It also extends their commute time home to begin homework and still have family and quality of life. CPS, you mismanaged funds for so many years. Do not continue to talk about how it is all for the children when you punish these kids for your financial gains and mismanagement.

It will affect our kids and siblings schedule as well as homework time, a thoughtless decition.
