My son is going to be a sophmore as a parent - the extra hour is going to make it harder to participate in extracurricular activities. It will also end the school day in the winter closer to when it is getting dark outside.

It's not fair for students who have other extracurricular activities to get home late, study and do a load of homework, and barely have time to do anything else. That's stupid.

I'm a concerned parent and I know that extra hour is needed for extracurricular activities and homework.

Please consider rush hour as a factor for everyones lives instead of just thinking of your own. Very shameful.

For my school, if you start 1st period, now you start at 8 am. It use to be 7:45. That's no big dea.l. But the thing is, if you end 8th period, you get out at 3:20. I live an hour away from school. By the time I'm home, it's 4:30. That's so late. And what if I end 9th period. So I get home at 5:30? That's already late. And that doesn't even include me staying for an after school club or a job. This change is just restricting students and should be removed. Yes, this change is for students to arrive to school on time but that isn't fair to change it just because people don't wake up on time.

There were nights throughout last year where I, a student without any extracurriculars afterschool 4 out of 5 days of the week, completed assignments at 2:00 AM. The idea of losing an hour afterschool is ludicrous and is not for the benefit of CPS students in the slightest; it's a decision made purely to save a little money for Rahm's avaricious office.

I hope someone at CPS reads the responses from students, parents and teachers, and changes their mind. This will have a huge impact on families, especially those with students in after school programs.
There was money for buses but the mayor's school board decided instead to provide it to Barbara Byrd Bennett's cronies. The mayor also decided to help build a new stadium for DePaul University rather than fund his public schools. Just two decisions that highlight the mayor's priorities. Who voted for this guy?

I have too many extra cirricular activities and I have them everyday so if I end school this late I would have to go to them right away, stay until like 9 pm because that is when I usually end and then do my homework until 2 am and never get any sleep.

No good reason at all, is there? Most parents get the kids out/up when they leave for work. Some travel together. There is a order and routine to this; no need to destroy it.

This will disrupt the students ability to participate in extra-curricular activities while still having time to complete homework. Furthermore, it will move arrival and departure times into peak rush hour traffic.

The 9 am start is such a waste of precious time. Also, this would leave my son at the mercy of rush hour. He would not have the time to attend his stress relief class!

To invoke such a drastic change is a total disregard for child safety, quality time with family, mobility, activities and most of all learning. For generations am hours are better than pm hours. You will force the mental aspect to shift possibly causing more failures.

No one is supporting this including teachers, sounds like a personal agenda of someone....
