Gandhi was convinced that social systems essentially depends upon, and cannot rise beyond, the creative individuals who participate in them. Neither political associations nor social movements can be better in practice than their typical adherents, and systems which seek to elevate the general conditions of humanity can succeed only to the extent that their supporters meet ethical and intellectual requirements which nurture freedom of initiative and fearless self-criticism. Rejecting every form of exploitation and viewing all human beings as equally responsible for the welfare of all.
