Counter-Petition for the Conservation/Preservation of the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi

I write all this quote because analyzing the life lived of Gandhi from 2nd October 1869 - 30th January 1948; he was involved in Prison detention for about 2,338 days of his entire life on earth in the name of serving humanity. And will be very wrong and unfair for any human being, not to recognize his resistance over imperialism and non-violence through sacrifices and spiritual development he went through from his 30s up ward. Karma will never forgive men and women who are vilifying this great man, with no history of sacrifice for humanity by themselves. I am done.....i have played my role Sir to respect your role you played on earth such that the blessing that cometh by honouring the heroes shall be granted on to me. My soul is at rest now Amen

Gandhi Must Stand!

Monuments carry messages! Gandhi stands for peace, national independence and international cooperation! The youth of Ghana need to be exposed to such positive messages, like Gandhi's!

He should still be acknowledged for the good he did

Tavistock Square in London is dedicated to Ghandi. The independence of India was an inspiration to Africa that we too can end colonial rule. Ghandi's philosophy was the basis of Ghana's positive action. Why would anybody want to pull down Ghandi?

Why on earth do we have to remove this statue? At least it's better than the Kotoka one at the Accra later national Airport

Why must his statue pulled down. He stood for truth and non-violence.

I am surprise people would want his statue down. He Must Stand! I love him because he did not exploit no black person. He helped wounded Zuluz during their time of struggle.

The University Council must preserve and let the statue stand. I love him because he stood for justice and equality. He was auto-critical of himself and was young then. But his ideas have contributed and shaped the affairs blacks.

Compatriots of Distinction, I have the honor to appeal to your patriotic conscience to stand for just cause in preservation of Ghandi's Memorial at UG-Legon. It is a symbol of universal pacifist non-violent resistance in political struggles of all freedom loving peoples. Ghana is not an exception. The forces demanding destruction of statue are dishonest charlatans with no record of historic participation in Ghana's independence movement. Ghandi is not Ghanaian but his ideas are embraced by Ghanaians for perpetual motivation and guidance. Ghana is ridiculed by simple and reactionary hysterical minds in academia. Ghandi, Martin L King, Jr., Mandela,Sekou Toure, Marcus Garvey all pan-Africa heroes. Let Ghandi stand for justice !!

The good name of these memories must be respected at least to tell the future generations of the past events that took place

I am in total agreement with the petitioners

Ghandi undoubtedly made anti-Afrikan racist comments. He also developed a blueprint that contributed to Ghana's defeat of colonialism. If his racist comments have more weight than Ghana's use of his blueprint, the statue should come down. If his blueprint has more weight than his racist comments, then the statue should remain. I've signed for it to remain.

I believe it is wrong to judge a man based on one or two unsavory statements they must have made in their entire life. Americans adore George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Yet, these two were "despicable" slave owners. One or two character flaws of a man or woman cannot/must not be used to describe them.
