The mental health support system at usc is frail and outdated. The school needs to do more to be there for its students who need help.

Mental Health is where so many of society’s troubled issues start. Hopefully USC and other schools can find a way to accomadate.

It took over two weeks for an appointment and three for a follow up

I was told that the counseling services were not equipped to handle my case.

Mental health is important for student success, and overall well being. This is IMPORTANT, and should be support.

Another idea, maybe have a one credit hour class that students can sign up for that teaches them about mental health and how to care for themselves/others if they have a mental illness.

My experiences with the counseling center has been amazing, but because others are feeling unheard and alone I am signing this petition.

Like the direction and intention of this legislation, but we need more drastic measures

Last semester I was going through a dark depression and finally had the willpower to book an appointment. I called to schedule one and they didn’t have availability for three + weeks. If I didn’t have friends there to listen/comfort/etc then 3 weeks would’ve been too long. This needs to change.

Please provide classes to help educate counselors and nutritionist on Type 1 Diabetes. Only a handful of counselors here know anything about the disease, and even then, their knowledge on it is limited.

I have never had a more stressful and traumatizing period in my life than last year when I was obligated by UofSC’s Behavioral Intervention Team to seek out of pocket mental health treatment which forced me to work and commute uncomfortable distances as well as spend all of that for treatment which USC could not offer me. The treatment service they offered me was at SC’s LRADAC which requires drug tests and is the location where convicts and mentally ill prison mates in SC are sent to submit drug tests and forced to attend counseling. The first experience was so traumatizing I could not return and instead had to seek treatment in MA.The Counseling at UofSC falls short in almost every aspect and fails to provide adequate accommodations and care for the many students who attend the university. I am lucky for the friends I have who have helped me overcome the stress and depression that was only intensified by UofSC’s BIT teams shortcomings. Sad and disappointed to attend USC.

This is so necessary. Thankful for students who are always one steps ahead.

I know too many people who have tried to get help at the university’s counseling services only to have them cancelled because there weren’t enough counselors available to meet with them.

Please provide your students with what they need. Your institution is more than financially capable with executing this request.
