The mental health building has rude people and the counselor I had always seamed like she didn’t cared and told me she couldn’t help me because I didn’t like her group therapy

I am a student struggling with mental health. On top of a large courseload, dealing with the transition to college, dealing with substance abuse, providing for myself and my family at home financially and the everyday stresses of being a 20 yr old female, I have dealt with the university’s problem regarding mental health. Not only does the Counseling center have a staffing problem, but the staff that are available are not equipped or professional for the standard of care students need. From the inefficiency or desk assistants to the disrespect and blatant disregard of students feelings, when you are at your lowest a trip to the counseling center will push you to your breaking point. I know this firsthand because it pushed me to my breaking point.
Address this problem and change this. You have the power too.

Increasing access to mental health resources should be a priority for the University. The staff at Student Health Services work hard to provide care but as they are overworked, many students go without care for weeks. Adding staff, increasing the availability of non-traditional counseling programs (peer-led and therapist-assisted online) and increasing the geographic footprint of SHS on campus will go a long way to help improve the mental well-being on campus.

Mental health treatment is an absolute necessity. I hope the University makes the necessary changes.

Experiencing cancelations and delays when mental health is supposed to be a "priority" of the university has effected me and is unacceptablr. They emphasize the availability of the emergency hotline but do not have coverage for the common person who depends on the center for medication visits or check ups with patients. With the money saved transferring mental health to the old building it seems surely that new staff could be brought on.

Commuter students are even less welcome than on-campus students. There is little effort made to accommodate us.

Many of my friends throughout college have suffered from some mental challenges that would benefit from counseling at some point in time during their college career. Part of reducing the stigma against mental health is having the resources available to utilize them.

I don't feel like counseling here did anything to help me. I felt like they were just trying to get me out as fast as possible. Reform is needed.

I used to go to counseling at USC when I was in the toughest part of my life thus far and it helped tremendously. I hope everyone has the opportunity to seek and find help as I did.

The mental health system at USC is in dire need of reformation. Almost every student I've heard of has had bad experiences with it, which is truly unacceptable in today's climate of mental health

The counseling center here is useless. I scheduled a 45 minute triage appointment 2 weeks in advance to be seen for my worsening anxiety and panic attacks. My appointment only lasted 12 minutes in which I was told to attend an anxiety workshop happening an entire week later. Thanks for nothing USC.
