We are interested in being represented by Local USA 829 of the IA. The costume coordinator position is a valuable one that requires a very strong minded, skilled individual. We believe that our contributions to the costume department are worthy of a category in the union.

Updates

December 18, 2013

The feedback I have received from fellow coordinators confirms that the responsibilities of this role are frequently undervalued within the current structure. We are currently gathering detailed documentation of our daily contributions to prepare for upcoming formal discussions with union representatives.

The response to this campaign indicates a growing recognition of the vital role costume coordinators play within the industry. This momentum provides a solid foundation as we pursue formal inclusion in the union.

The Costume Designer is responsible for how the costume department runs, and I enthusiastically support this petition to include the Costume Coordinator position in Local 829. It is forward thinking, and their inclusion would be an acknowledgement of how the costume department actually operates.

Such a crucial role in the department, similar to Art Department our coordinators run the show! Budget, PA's, managing the returns all supporting the design team and so much more. It should be a job that is protected and can be held for many years - not treated as a barely a step up from a PA. It is so much more. Better support = Better coordinators!

Without the Coordinators, our jobs, the Designers' job, and the Accountant's job would be nearly impossible. It's an incredibly difficult position with extreme responsibility and I have always thought that it should be a Union position. Coordinator's deserve to be compensated fairly for the very hard work they do.

It is time for our dept. to be taken as seriously as the Art Dept. The Coordinator has a great deal of responsiblity of both doing the books, ordering online and keeping dept. organized. e

we should be behind this as USA 829 ADCs. A natural progression. It would only enhance our category. Every person working in this capacity for costumes would therefore be ADCs for Costumes similarly to ADCs for Decoration.

This position certainly should be considered as a part of the Local 829 Union. I have worked on projects where I am the first to arrive and the last to go home, involved in almost every aspect of the costume department functions, and the responsibility in which the coordinator holds, is such a vital part of the project.
