As I have both family and friends in Berlin we would use such a service multiple times in a year

I think a varied airport route selection is important for maintaining Cork`s vibrant international feel. Flights arriving directly in the city will bring more direct trade to the country, and boost the tourism and hospitality trade.

I often fly to Germany 4-5 times a year-have to go through Dublin now. It would be great to be able to fly Cork.

I fully support the call for the return of a direct Cork Berlin flight. I have 2 sons living and working in Berlin and Leipzig. We have visited a number of times over the years but having to go via Dublin adds almost an extra days travel on either side. If there were a direct link, we would certainly avail of it on a regular basis as would they coming home even for a weekend. Elizabeth Keane

Notwithstanding any benefits to the local economy and to people who travel to Berlin frequently, it is important to bear in mind that there is no real environmental plan in place for Cork Airport’s on-going route expansion, which includes offering transatlantic flights from autumn. A lot of lip-service has been paid to “consultation” etc. on the impact of commercial air traffic on the city and environs. But effectively nothing is being done to mitigate this impact. It is wrong to lobby for any further routes in the absence of a clear and definite plan, agreed with Cork residents. The airport’s environmental impact, in terms of noise and air pollution, is already huge. You can get a direct bus to Dublin airport for a Berlin flight, adding just a couple of hours and a few Euro to the journey. I advocate using existing pathways first, and carefully considering the proliferation of more. We need an environmentally aware transport infrastructure plan first, new routes second.

Direct flights out of Cork have been in deplorable decline; so much so, that many people no longer want to fly at all. Berlin is not only a wonderful destination on its own; but there are many important cities within less than two hours train rides; such as Dresden, Leipzig, Hannover, Hamburg etc... People from all these places are potential visitors to Cork and the south west of Ireland for many different reasons!

As a Berliner living and working in Cork I can only support this initiative. Cork is the 2nd largest city in the Republic of Ireland and the cultural and economical capital of the south. The fact that all air traffic to Berlin is routed through Dublin has always occured as quite incomprehensible to me.

Cork man in Leipzig, Germany - would be very helpful for the few trips home I can make every year. Also a number of friends and colleagues here have asked about visiting Ireland and were disappointed they can't fly to Cork from Berlin

I am a Cork man living in Berlin for the last 5 years. Direct flights would help me visit my family more regularly (and for them to visit me). I currently need to take time off for a weekend trip home.
