I think this is a great idea! It truly sickens me that the city of Copperas Cove is so against a community garden which would make the neighborhood look better, but they will not do a damn thing about people with trash and high weeds all over their yard. I have made several phone calls to code enforcement about my trashy neighbor who has trash in the front yard, which blows into my yard, and has extremely tall weeds growing along the fence line that are invading my yard, but they won't do anything about it.

I graduated high school and Copperas Cove and when my family first moved there in 1995, it looked like a nice place to live. Now, when I visit my dad who still lives in the same house he has since then, the city looks like it needs help getting cleaned up. Teaching the community how to care for the city and give back, such as the volunteers that are working so hard to make this possible. A garden is a great way to help the community flourish even through the toughest times!

It is a shame that Cove City is fighting them. Last time I was home 2 years ago the city seemed to be dirtier than I remembered growing up. Once decent neighborhood were replaced with unkempt houses, city park was filthy, and downtown was dirty. So the fact that they are fighting against a community garden is shameful. Copperas Cove City counsel is going backwards in their thinking.

Heaven forbid we should help people in the city learn about growing fruits and vegetables and coming together as a COMMUNITY. What is wrong with you Copperas Cove?

I do not know the people that have been trying to start a community garden. That being said, I cannot fathom why city officials would put up so much red tape for a privately funded and maintained community garden. Numerous other cities have done so and frankly it is a wonderful idea. Especially since there isn't much else to do around here, anyway. Lol Why not get the community involved in something good and learn a few things/meet people in the process? I'll read up on this some more, but my official vote is that Cove should definately be allowed to have a community garden!
