From reading the city code and ordinances, it does not prohibit having chickens, therefore I see no valid basis for not allowing it.
Our entire legislative system assumes anything not prohibited is not regulated, taxed, or otherwise impinged upon.
As such, any penalty or prohibition without accompanying legislative documentation can be freely disregarded as unlawful, unless I missed some obscure footnote somewhere.
Also,we will gladly remember your decision to infringe on our property rights in the voting booth.

As a child growing up in Maumee we had 4 chickens. The neighbors never complained about them. In fact they would come over from time to time to see them, and tell us stories about when they were kids and raised chickens.
My wife and I hope that the Maumee Code Committee will recommend to City Council approving raising chickens in the City of Maumee.

Chickens and gardens do not inherently attract rats. Grew up on a farm. Had chickens and gardens.

Hens are harmless. It's not like they have roosters crowing early in the morning. Last I checked I could not hear a hen laying an egg.

Not too many things better than fresh organic eggs. The added benefit of having hens consuming food waste and a wide variety of pests makes owning them even better.
