We, the community of Coonamble, NSW, petition the NSW Government to fund the Aboriginal Adult Literacy program.
The Literacy For Life Foundation (LFLF) has successfully run the community-led and Aboriginal-managed campaign from February 2023 to now.
Due to insufficient funds within the LFL Foundation, the local campaigns cannot continue to exist to help Aboriginal people who want to learn to read and write.
Staff, current and past students seek your support to demonstrate the importance of an on-going Aboriginal Adult literacy program in Coonamble.

Access to Literacy is a basic human right which must be supported. The successful track record of LFLF speaks for itself and must continue, for the benefit of our whole community
As a local Occupational Therapist, I think the loss of this program will have such a sad and negative impact on ensuring the future daily engagement of many people within our rural community.
The Coonamble Literacy program is an essential part of our town, it helps people to get jobs and reading and writing skills are a part of everyday living essentials that young and our elderly population need.
Adult literacy is an important yet often forgotten part of ensuring adults have the ability to self-determine their lives and their futures.
The loss of this program to Coonamble would have long lasting impacts on many people in this community. We often have great programs funded in our struggling rural community, only for the funding to then be pulled & we go back to being further & further behind the iron curtains that are the Blue Mountains & then Dubbo. Taking away this program would widen the gap that was starting to close!
Keep the Literacy for Life going.

This is a vital service for our community and must be maintained. It enables individuals to learn essential skills that will enhance both their personal and professional outcomes. In turn giving our community potential work force and volunteer base
