With alarming growth of mosquitioes in the neighbourhood, it is requested to the city of Ottawa (in Kanata North) to take precautionary measures. Since this is growing community and have young kids who like to play outside to take advantage of the weather that lasts only for few months. So this is humble request to please take some necessary steps to avoid any diseases that can spread through mosquitoes. That will not only save government spend money on madical but will support community to stay healthy. Regards.

We live at Kanata Estates. It's surprise that we get so many mosquitos this year. We have to spray to the door before we get in/our. My little son and his friends cannot enjoy this summer as before.

Are you guys really serious? Perhaps you are the invaders or better yet a new food source that has caused an eruption in the mosquito population. Get rid of your ponds, pools, bird baths, cedar hedges and standing water. Plant marigolds everywhere in your landscaped oasis. Turn out your outside lights and they won't collect on your garage doors. Living close to water, how are the spiders? This is the price you pay for living with nature. Just ask everybody else in West Carleton, Goulbourne or Lanark County. The concrete jungle is beckoning and I am sure that you would be welcome. Or, if you want to be "one with nature", accept the fact that other creatures live there too.

I completely support this petition. The mosquitoes here are the worst I've ever seen. They swarm the minute you leave your house. We do not dare leave without head-to-toe OFF. It's pretty awful.

I live in Morgan's Grant. I can't sit on my front porch or out in my back yard because the mosquitoes are brutal. I'm killing mosquitoes INSIDE my house every day too. I wake up in the morning with new mosquito bites despite my best efforts to keep windows and doors closed. I've heard it said that it's not the city's responsibility to pay for mosquito control. If that's the case, I'd be willing to pay some kind of mosquito tax to help cover the costs, so I can enjoy being outside on my property for the few warm months we get every year.

There is not too much to add to what already have been said. But one thing I would like to add: It is NOT the problem of wetlands. It is something in this particular wetland. I am a camper and we go camping with the kids different places specifically near the lakes, rivers so we could swim. Very often we sleep on the campsites that are right next to a swampy areas. When I say right next to I mean within 10 meters. And when we are camping mosquitoes are never ever such a problem as they are at our FRONT DOOR and FRONT YARD. I am not even mentionning back yard. Backyard is INFESTED. There is no way my kids can play on the backyard. When we camp , we can easily SIT outside in the evening and have dinner OUTSIDE wearing minimum bug spray, sometimes even NONE at all. What it tells me, is that something is wong with the wetlands in Kanata area. I am not an expert, but I know that this is NOT normal because I can compare to swampy and forested areas in different other places where we camp. It is very LOCAL and what it tells is that it is OUT OF NORNMAL BALANCE that exists everywhere esle. So logically if this is an out of balance situation (compared to everywhere else) IT SHOULD BE TREATED!!! and brought back to NORMAL. I am a nature lover, I camp, I hike, I teach my kids to love and cherish outdoors, empathising the fragility of our environment. BUT what we are facing is an infestation. This is OUT OF BALANCE SITUATION that needs to be brought to balance with artificial measures.

We came home late last night and our garage door was covered in mosquitos. It looked like something you would see in a horror movie, Our lawn and garden are infested with mosquitos.

I raised this issue with Councillor Wilkinson last year, asking her to support the implementation of a nuisance mosquito control program for the City of Ottawa (through larviciding and/or fogging). As I assume the cost is a major consideration, I’m sure that most residents would agree to add a “mosquito tax” to the property tax bill, if that’s what it takes to allow us to enjoy summer in our neighbourhood (somehow, mosquitos seem to avoid downtown!).

My family moved in Heritage Hills area in 2000 and last year was the first time we complained to Kanata North Coun. Marianne Wilkinson about this problem! The harassment from mosquitos became a REAL issue in the last few years (we cannot stay outside even for a few minutes in the morning, day, or night) and we strongly support this petition!

Mosquitoes at our home in Heritage Hills are unbearable. I found this petition while searching for a private company that can fog our yard.

I've never seen anything like this before. You literally get swarmed by mosquitoes when you go outside in the late afternoon/evening. Please do something about this problem. Thanks.

Unable to enjoy any outdoor activities due to unusually excessive number of mosquitoes. I have been living in Kanata Estates for 3 years now and the situation seems to be worsening. I have never seen so many mosquitos anywhere in my life. They swarm at you the moment you set foot outside the house.

Eradicate them as soon as possible please. Hope this includes Kanata Lakes also.

The mosquito problem is a small part of our allowing urbanization to pave the world, creating flash floods and occasional wet land not wetlands where there would be a natural cycle of other organisms to deal with the larvae and the adult
