The city should do something about it in Throughout Kanata Lakes area Close to water. Manning court, the Rokeries... which are close to beaver pond are infested with mosquitoes. It's hard to work in In the garden or enjoy the deck. The city must do something About it (learn from other cities in the world with houses near Water). Have a spray program or something.

Tackling the mosquito issue in Kanata North is serious. There is the threat of serious diseases. The city needs to act.

Here are some suggestions to points#6 and #7 from the May26th post by Nat D. Natural mosquito control is a great way to balance the environment and create a habitat where by nature takes care of itself. There are bats looking for a new "home". Setting up bat houses in the Beaver Pond will solve the problem of them taking up residence in our attics while being a good mosquito control. It would be interesting to know which of these could be implemented in Canada. Can dragonflies and frogs be added to the Beaver Pond? As residents we too can contribute to the solution and not just rely on the city for a solution. Here are 6 different mosquito repelling plants, that can be planted in high traffic areas around the house. If every house in Kanata North planted a few of these the impact would be significant. 1. We can not even sit in our back yard in the summer because of the mosquitoes harassing us constantly. Please do something to control them in Kanata Estate area.

Hi Scott, you make some great points but you don't know our area; there are a ton of kids in the neighbourhood and the health of the residents is key. Look up the demographics and education levels for our community. This is an educated population seeking guidance and leadership on a recurring problem. Before anybody jumps to a conclusion on a resolution, let's agree there is a significant problem with bugs that requires action in the new development. I'm an avid outdoorsman and grew up in Kanata Lakes on a street that backs onto the pond - I am aware of the elevated bug levels associated with green space. When my wife and I made the decision to buy in Kizell Pond we fully expected there would be a few more bugs than normal (ie. elevated levels at dawn/dusk) however since moving into the neighbourhood 4 years ago we have yet to find an extended period where we can enjoy any time outside. In previous years the bugs were worse than I have ever seen anywhere (Northern Ontario, Winnipeg, Caribbean, etc.). In previous summers you literally could not go from the mailbox to the house without a swarm of mosquitoes being all over you at any time of day. This summer things seem to be much better, there has been less rain than normal and it has been possible to be outside for longer periods without being accosted. What the neighbours are asking for is simple - we want for our families to be able to play outside. We aren't asking for the complete elimination of bugs, we're Canadian after all and we know there are bugs around. We seek (1) a safe and healthy proactive abatement program which can be implemented immediately to reduce any existing mosquitoes, (2) a program that can be started in the spring to mitigate the potential of summer bugs and finally (3) we are looking for leadership from our city on an emergency plan, that when called upon, can be implemented quickly on a case by case basis should the mosquitoes get out of hand like they have in prev
