As an alumni/fan of a fellow "Group of 5" school, I strongly support the continuation of the UAB football program. They have had a nice turnaround this season under Coach Clark including a doubling of average attendance. It is unfair that the University of Alabama Board of Trustees would be so zealous in their quest to enrich the Crimson Tide that they would destroy an in-state program resulting in loss of jobs and business for the Birmingham community not to mention the pride of students having a football program to call their own. The Crimson Tide have been doing pretty well with UAB still around; what purpose does it hold to kill their program? #freeUAB #freeGSU while we're on the subject

I am a UAB graduate. I played college football and have coached for 21 years. My son played at Troy University. NOTHING is more important to a community than supporting the athletic program. Football, more than any other sport, allows 85 young men, cheerleaders, band members, and others to earn at least partial scholarships. It KEEPS kids off the streets, teaches them leadership and character. I was there on the FIRST DAY OF UAB FOOTBALL. It is YOUR responsibility to stand up for all who have wanted to give the program a fighting chance. You AT LAST, have a coach that can take UAB to an ELITE level. Look what he did as a first year coach. With improved facilities, you could have a REGULAR conference champion in just a couple of years. Imagine the story it will make 10 years from now when Alabamians say, "Remember when Dr. Watts stood up to the BoT and saved the football program. I can't believe they almost shut it down. Now we've won 5 conference titles in a row. Think it can't happen? Look at what has happened at Marshall since there tragedy in the 1970's. Most wanted it shut down. But a few stood up for it. UAB now needs you to STAND FOR IT. WE ARE BLAZERS.

UAB earns $5B a year for the UA system. We deserve our own football program and more control on the BOT.
