I have been a strong supporter of UAB football since day one. I can count on two hands the number of home games I have missed since 1991. I like others are sadden by the decision to end the football program! Fight on Blazers! #FreeUAB

I find it of Dr. watts to be a greedy old man who is using the money brought over from football to put into his pockets, it is unfair to those students who are playing their hearts out to be screwed like this

It is said history repeats itself. The Board Of Trustees along with Watts are continuing the same behavior that has been ongoing for decades now. History does not have to repeat itself but will unless firm strong steps are taken to stop the cycle.

When I was at UAB, I was honored to be given many amazing opportunities including being voted to represent our school by being able to walk along side some incredible women & men on our Homecoming Court. I walked out on the field at halftime to receive my award, but also to support the team that was giving their all to win a victory for the school that meant so much to me. I was lucky enough to meet some amazing individuals (many of whom are still very much a part of my life and I will treasure them forever) and join them in our support and pride for our Blazers. This is why my heart is broken by the cold & callous remarks and choices President Ray Watts is making. I would like to join my fellow former Mr. & Ms. UAB honorees in publicly stating that I disagree strongly with his decision to dissolve our team, and with it part of our core-pride and love for our university. As a former Officer of the Homecoming Committee, Entertainment Committee, Blazer Nights Committee, Sigma Alpha Lambda President, Film Club President, and member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta, Psi Chi, & Delta Omega, I strongly urge my fellow active UAB students and alumni to actively protest his poor and detrimental decisions which are trampling our Green & Gold and will ultimately lead to irreversible damage to our Dear Old UAB.

As a former member of the UAB Marching Blazers, I can assure you that more than the football program will be affected by the discontinuation of the football program. Without an outlet (nor a team) to play for, members of the band will no longer have access to the great program that has been established through the hard work and dedication of previous generations of faculty, staff, and students. I met some of my best friends through the music programs at UAB, and I can imagine losing that sense of comradery and fellowship is a huge blow to the college experience to the members of the band. Just like the football team, the Marching Blazers are a team with it's own set of coaches and assistant coaches (the directors and assistant directors), and they are just as devastated at losing this opportunity as the football team. Of course, I am not discounting the experience of the football players at all. They spent countless hours and invested their blood, sweat, and tears into making the program successful. Ray Watts' actions have resulted in bringing nothing but shame to UAB, all while continuing the tradition of limiting our autonomy. #FreeUAB #FireRayWatts

The unconscionable actions of UAB President Ray Watts must be reversed. He used self-serving "facts" to fit the conclusion he wanted: the termination of the football program. I cannot imagine what his true agenda is; however, clearly, it is not the best interests of the students nor the institution. The callousness Watts demonstrated before the UAB athletes shows how unfit he is to lead the University. His attempt to quantify "his love" for the institution and suggest the students' "love" pales by comparison illustrates a desperate void of love! I cringe that Mr. Watts presides over my sons experience at UAB. I grieve for the current student athletes who had their dreams crushed. How dare Watts do this to them before finals!
