Please prohibit soil-less hydroponic vegetable production as certified organic.

Organic certification and standards were founded upon the work undertaken by the Soil Association in 1972, based upon research work undertaken from 1945 identifying the health of soil = health of plant & ultimately the health of mankind. To establish hydroponic systems and certifying as organic breaches the basic principals of the international organic movement IFOAM . This proposal must be rejected to ensure consumer confidence in organic production is not compromised. ThE US government risks alienating organic products globally from America if passed.

strengthen the usda organic standards with no allowances for hydroponic vegetable production.

Organic standards should not be modified to include hydroponic. I have grown hydroponic tomatoes in a research project and refused to eat them!

If there are standards, especially if recognized in the growers countries, this seems to be a request for FAIRness.

As a former member of NYS Natural Organic Farmers Associations Organic Certification Standards Board, I (1985 to 1988) object to the inclusion of soil-less hydroponic systems as being organic. You can grow waercress that way using natural spring water.

Organic Agriculture is SOIL-Based and hydroponics should NOT be certified organic!!
