We need the micro-organisms in the soil. If our soil dies, we die. We need to support healthy farm lands and eat food grown in healthy soil in order to have healthy immune systems.

I believe that the National Organic Program should prohibit soil-less hydroponic vegetable production as certified organic. Organic produce needs soil to be organic. Hydroponic growing needs its own and separate set of standards.

I believe that organic growing standards cannot represent hydroponic growing. Hydroponic growing needs its own set of standards to be performed sustainably, and cannot represent sustainable agriculture standards specific to promote and maintain soil nutritional health, matter quality, and resilience to erosion. I demand that the National Organic Program accept the 2010 NOSB recommendation to prohibit soil-less hydroponic vegetable production as certified organic.

Once you loosen the standards, the slope is a slippery one. No soil, no organic label.
The use of the word "organic" should be carefully protected so that it retains the status of highest health.

As an organics foods consumer for over thirty years and former independent organic certification inspector, I strongly support the prohibition of soil-less hydroponic production as certified organic.
The soil, the earth, is our matrix, our source, our renewability. There needs to be truth in labeling so that the people who want to buy food that is protecting that most precious resource are, in fact, doing so.

Excuse me they grow hydroponic , don't call it organic in their country but money allows them to label it differently here.
