I think a new category should be made for hydroponic that will let comsumers know that only pesticides approved for organic farming are being used. That way consumers will have more information. Because of drought, there will be more hydroponic growing I have heard.

How does one classify chemicals as organic irregardless of sprayed on the ground, on crops or put in hydroponic tanks?

Growing vegetables hydroponically may have fewer pesticides than industrially grown non-organic vegetables, but without organic soil, they do not benefit from the good bacteria and micro-organisms in organic soil.

The whole idea of organic agriculture, as I understand it, is to have the dynamics of rich soil life processes nourish vegetable plants. Therefore, no soil, no organics!

Hydroponic produce grown without chemicals is commendable, but should not be considered organic. It is misleading, and depends upon too many unnatural practices to fall under the same category and labeling as organic produce grown in healthy soil.

I wish Organic standards to stay as they are. I feel this change is being pushed by mpney from big farmers. Leave things the way they are.
If hydroponics are chemical-free, then certify that. They cannot be organic without soil!
My choice is for life, now and in the future. Just organic!!
