A concise, consumer-friendly, informative definition of "organic" is long overdue. As is an overhaul of nutritional labeling of our food in general.

when labeling use 'ORGANIC via SOIL' as a marketing tool to differentiate from any other method of gardening. How can anyone complain about absolutely complete transparency.!

Keep Organic Certification true to its roots in the soil. No Organic Hydroponic allowed in the USDA National Organic Standards!

From the NOP's homepage definition of organic. Organic is a labeling term that indicates that the food or other agricultural product has been produced through approved methods that integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. I don't see how hydroponics can fit the definition of 'promoting ecological balance' or 'conserving biodiversity'.

WE ~ demand ~ the NOP ~ accept the 2010 NOSB ~ recommendation to prohibit soil-less hydroponic vegetable production as certified organic.
