I live in Shorewood and work in Iowa County near two other Pools. There is a plan to open every pool that I know of except for Shorewood. I did watch the Facebook meeting and there was clearly a rush to a ‘no’ vote with trustees expressing a desire to continue talking and gathering more information. If we are going to open up much of the rest of our community, mainly for adults, perhaps we should consider doing something for the kids and their families that have supported Shorewood Pool for so many years. Mark implied details of a decent plan for reservations and distancing. Please consider that a goal of 6/15 would not be unreasonable. Finally, if the pool is opened for UW or any other group to ‘rent out’ would present a huge problem in terms of justifying your decision to not open.

We have been members for 15 years. We have never lived in Shorewood. We believe in and love this community and continue to come back every year. Our kids know no other kind of summer. We as a family have full confidence this community of devoted, well educated, well respected adults can work together to figure out a safe for all plan to reopen the pool. To develop, to execute and to revise as needed a plan to open up for the summer , to provide a physically and emotionally healthy experience would be an accomplishment where we can all be proud . Please reconsider.

Working and swimming at the pool provides a greater purpose during a time of uncertainty and loss. Protecting the well-being of ourselves and others by providing the opportunity for safe, healthy exercise in a community-supported, outdoor environment is more important than ever. Thank you for considering how we can safely support the opening of the pool.

I am a member of the Swim/Dive Committee. I do think that there is a plan to safely open the pool this summer. If all of the other pools can do it according to Dane County guidelines and phases, there is no reason Shorewood can't as well. I've looked at many of the other pools' plans. Many of them are tied to municipalities and are moving forward. Our facility is by far the most accommodating to the restrictions of a phased plan. We have the biggest pool, the biggest pool deck, and a membership that is responsible. A very high percentage of the membership will pay full freight for a July and August modified swim season. Along with rental income from BAC and UW, it should be financially feasible. Moreover, from a public health perspective, it is the responsible thing to do to give families a safe, familiar option to be outdoors and exercise safely. With respect to guard training, there is also a responsible way to do it. This decision may be the easiest for the board and for pool management, but it is not the right decision for the community. Yes, it will take more effort, but it can and should be done. The CDC, Wisconsin DHS, Dane County Health, USA Swimming all agree it can be done. Nothing makes Shorewood a unique situation that requires it to remained closed. If conditions change, and Dane County rescinds Phase I, then the pool could close and refund fees. But to not try is a disservice to all of us in this difficult time.

I am a 10 year member with a daughter who is a life guard and am in full support of her training requirements. Please allow the members and employees to decide what is comfortable for them within the proper guidelines

As a Shorewood lifeguard I am more than willing to sacrifice social distancing in order to train properly. When there's a will there's a way and I firmly believe there is a strong collective will to open this pool, and as the pool committee has already proposed, there are ways to do it too.

As a lifeguard I feel very comfortable both training and working at shorewood all summer long. A decision that was based on the staff should not have been made without the representation of the staff. Please reconsider! YEE!

Our beloved pool is truly a sacred place to our family. The pool Committee has taken the time to put viable options to make it work this summer. Please take the time to actually review it and then make the call.

Please let this pool open. So many people work and go here. Not opening this pool will create more of a mess than not opening it.
