Consideration for plan to open Shorewood Hills Pool summer of 2020

Please reconsider and open the pool on a limited basis this summer. Reservation times could be established to accommodate lap swimming and short family times at the pool. With limited numbers in the chlorinated pool the danger of viral infection from the current pandemic would be reduced.

Please open the pool for reasons stated in the petition. My health is more damaged by not swimming than by safely swimming.

Please reconsider.,.Important to open the pool for Lap swimming and exercise for older adults. Can be done safely with limited numbers at a time and good chlorination. Thank you.

I suggest opening on a limited basis for kids swimming lessons, and lap swim which I believe could be controlled for safety.

With most other pools opening including Goodman pool it seems worthwhile for Shorewood to reconsider the decision.

While I understand the concern for safety, it needs to be recognized how many people rely on the pool every day all summer long. The decision to close was hasty and done without consulting the employees, who are affected by this decision at least as much as anyone else. Nobody would have been forced to work if they were not comfortable doing so, and many other pools have found safe ways to open. There is no reason we can’t do the same.

Comments to board’s hasty decision to keep Shorewood Pool closed for the summer Seniors desperately need exercise to stay healthy. Under our current very restricted life the only possibility is to walk with social distancing . During the summer heat and humidity this is no longer possible. Perhaps Shorewood Hill board members did not realize the strongly negative implication of their decision on seniors who rely for their health on the Shorewood Swimming pool for swimming. Here is a recommendation to consider: open the pool for limited hours, adult swim only with very limited number of life guards. This was an option in the past when schools opened in the fall to give an extra chance for lap swimmers to enjoy the pool. The danger of the viral pandemic infection would be reduced to very low levels.

Loyal members need a way to get some exercise in the summer. Now that is taken away. There could have been a more creative approach regarding how to lower risks while opening the pool during this pandemic. Outside and chlorine - sounds like germ busters to me. Members likely would have been happy to abide by new rules and restrictions and even higher fees to have the pool open this summer.

Disappointed with the closed minds of the Village Board. SW member for 16 years. I’ll find another place to swim.

Please open the pool! It is a very important part of summer for us. All other Madison pools are opening.

We have been non-village pool members for 20 years. I trained there as a UW swimmer. I understand the grounds by which you cancelled the Summer, but please reconsider. Many of the guards are comfortable with the small chance of risk with a save. Saves will be rare with reduced occupancy. We are the only pool that does guard drills. We could stop these and still have safe operation. The mental health benefit of exercise for members, and community for the youth employees outweigh the rare chance of exposure to the guards. The UW has at least 5 swimmers with Olympic trial cuts and you are the only 50 meter pool in town. Most of the other pools are open. Please reconsider.

Let the pool open for senior swim and dive season

Please allow our beloved pool to reopen this summer following the Forward Dane guidelines. Thank you!

Let the pool committee do their job. There should be a special meeting the week of June to address this issue. The Board’s decision was hasty and short-sighted and needs to be redressed. Other pools, public and private, have found a way to open safely and so should we.

Please reconsider opening the pool with guidelines like other pools such as Maple Bluff, Hawks Landing, Nakoma and Bishops Bay.
