I can't think of any person better suited to have the school names. She saved my brother from a lifetime of ignorance.

And I hope they also replace the memorials for other teachers and staff.

The number of former students commenting here is remarkable. Since my time in the sixth grade, Mrs. Lawrence became the standard for all educators to be judged. Naming a school after her would be a fitting honor.

Mrs. Lawrence was my sixth grade teacher at Talcott St. I have never forgotten her & never will. She bestowed a wonderful part of herself in every student.

Connie Lawrence actually began her teaching career at Tioga Central School in 1955. She taught 6th grade that year. I was in 5th grade at the time. I was so happy the next year -1956 - when I was a 6th grader and MRS. LAWRENCE was my teacher!! My time in her class was a special time but short lived. At the Christmas break she left the position in anticipation of her first child's birth - Steve. There were many tears in the classroom upon hearing this news. Her return to teaching was in the Owego. Apalachin School District. And the rest is history. Indeed, a special lady and a fabulous teacher!!

It's the right thing to do renaming the school in memory of a great educator and a terrific person.

Mrs. Lawrence was my 6th grade teacher at Talcott Street Elementary. She was adored by all her students, and I think renaming the the elementary school for her would be a wonderful tribute. She made learning fun and cared for each and every student in her class.
