4 hours for an abulance for an average of 45 minute journey, plus the sceduals sould be changed and allow for full time crew in the Carraroe station

We are not a 'Third World' Country - for goodness sake, STOP providing Connemara in Western Ireland with a 'Third World' Ambulance Service!

When I’ve personally needed an ambulance the appliance was at my house in clifden within ten minutes, an excellent service. And I’m sure there are several people who’ve had similar positive experiences in the Connemara area. However, when my child was very seriously unwell the ambulance was not available and a unit had to come from carraroe. This meant a fifty minute wait. (It also meant that the community of carraroe were left without an ambulance as in the case mentioned in the article). By the time the carraroe crew were at the scene our child had to be transferred to university hospital Galway by the coastguard helicopter. Therefore the service is completely hit or miss. And everybody from our communities must be made aware of this. I have utmost respect for all our local emergency response personnel but a substandard service is not enough for anybody be they young, elderly or anywhere in the middle.

The ambulance service is abominable. A bit over a yr ago I had a horrendous experience where I was called to help a friend and neighbour who had collapsed. I am a first aider and tried my best. However despite the ambulance being only 20 to 30 mins away it took it 45 mins to come. We were left on our own with no back up from local services such as fire brigade. Sadly and not surprisingly, my friend died, waiting. I am so mad
