Community Nursery under Threat

I agree with this completely. Some of the comments being made on Facebook and highly inappropriate and a councillor certainly should be more professional.

This was a meeting to discuss the bid for a lot of money to enhance children's lives. As it states Councillor Gillies attended this meeting back in February.

It was revealed at tonight's Farnworth area forum meeting that the town's ward was one of five included in a Greater Manchester bid for the Fulfilling Lives: A Better Start scheme, a lottery grant programme. Fifteen local authorities across the country are in the final stages of bidding for the grants, which are worth £165 million in total. The three to five local authorities that are successful in their final bid will each receive £30 to £50 million over eight to 10 years. The bid is to be made by the end of the month and a decision on whether or not Greater Manchester will receive funding will be made in June.

For anyone reading these comments believes that a business should not be in a community centre, they need to ask themselves two questions. How would the the community centre carry on without the rent off the businesses and question two. Is the nursery the only business in the centre. Is everyone else offering their services for free

Question? Would you pay £105 per day for a room in a community centre? Or more to the point would you try and charge it?

Jean Gillies has put on her face book that the nursery has intended moving from Highfield and are just using the committee as an excuse to leave. Apart from the fact that I feel a ward Councillor should not make assumptions, I certainly think making them on face book is another very inappropriate action. We always intended staying at Highfield, and if we sell some items on its because we don't want them any more or maybe its to try and make some money towards the extortionate rent they are trying to charge

Dear Mrs Thornley We where asked if we would look at giving you a exclusive one and we agreed. We are not changing anything on the agreement so as from today's date 17th February you will be charged £10 per hour and the room becomes available for the centre to use as it wishes until you decide what you want. If this is not agreeable for the centre to use as it wishes until you decided what you want. If this is not agreeable then we will have to ask you to leave with immediate effect. Regards HHCA

Dear Colleen You emailed HHCA on the 7/2/14 telling me you was having a meeting at 6pm, just to let you know your room isn't allowed to be used after 6pm as it needs to be ready for other user groups as explained in another email, so the meeting you are having (if still planned ) will not be permitted. In September a 3 months notice of termination was served on you and came to and end in December 2013 as you are aware, so therefore this still stands and as you do not have this then you need to pay as from the 17th February the amount of £10 per hour. If you have no intention of paying this then we will have no alternative but to remove you from the room completely. If you had to put the room back to original condition will you be taking the paint off the walls that took you and other helpers three days to do. would you have to take the child sized toilets out you installed at your own cost. Would you have to take the security you installed at your own cost for the safety of the children. Would you have to give the play area back to the people you begged and begged the money from. Just wondering!!! Come on committee what exactly as the nursery done only good as far as I can see. a friend

I have just emailed Shelley Taylor a question. I asked if she had composed the emails and demands to the nursery on behalf of the committee? I would be interested to hear her answer

I think it is disgusting that they are trying to force out a nursery which serves the local community

Wise words Marcia, and I am not sure they have the depth of feeling to be ashamed. Just becoming a battle of wills. What they want, we cannot do, what we want, they wont do.

Thanking everyone for taking the trouble to show their support. It really is so sad that a very small group of people can make decisions that would effect so many people in our community. Yes we have other sites to accommodate the children, but Highfield needs a local nursery, not everyone can afford to travel.

this nursery is a big part of the community helping parents attend work and children achieve and have a good start before attending primary school.
