Community Nursery under Threat

The Nursery provides a needed service to the local community and should be retained.

It seems as if the dance group and the association members have other plans for the building, maybe and this has been suggested that a local singing and dance business see the building as somewhere to relocate and come together with mutual businesses. They might feel that the nursery is in the way. Councillor gillies has a singing tuition business and her daughter a dance class, would be understandable to assume this could be the case. But as said before how many parents will be able to afford these extra classes if they are not working, because they have no local childcare

My Little boy goes to Broadoaks Nursery which is a great little NURSERY within the Community. It provides a great starting block for Children pre school at a very cost effective level, this no doubt would change with an increase in rent to the proprietor. What plans do the association have that is making them sign an unfair agreement or an increase in rent! As far as I can see the association hasn't spent any reasonable level of money on the centre so does is the proposed increase being used to find this! Everybody understands things cost money but when an unjust proposal is submitted which doesn't carry reasonable grounds then people will oppose it! Why can't the community hall organisation work with Broadoaks to come to a sensible arrangement that suits both parties rather than a power happy committee dictating how it's going to be going forward?? Ultimately the parents will pay for this hike as Broadoaks has no other option other than increase it's prices to supplement the increase, potentially loosing business and putting good highly trained Nursery Staff out if a job...!! I suggest the community organisation gives great consideration to some of these points

Yes I agree, all we need to do is discuss things. The nursery is open to discussion, name anytime and any venue, we are keen to talk

A good and valued community facility like this should not be scrapped

This was in February concerning the safety of the dance floor, no report was found or shown to us. In August we were fed up of waiting so we paid for a structural survey which found the ceiling/ dance floor not strong enough for the purpose of dance. Why did the committee have another test done if it had already been tested as stated by jean gillies?

It is my understanding that the agreement has just been put on hold until the investigation has taken place. As I understand it was someone from the NHS that where in the Nursery premises at the time when Zumba was taking place. I have advised the Council regarding an inspection that took place by a construction engineer that I was party to and therefore I understand that this has to be confirmed. I have had sight of the letter that Shelley has sent to you and I understand that this is only an extension while this is sorted, and I do not think the committee mean that the offer is not there but in fact they are just concerned regarding the complaint and any damage it would cause to the room below which of course is the Nursery and they have an obligation to look into these complaints. Dawn Lythgoe is as I understand no longer dealing with the centre and is off until next week. I have advised you on many occasion that if you have any problems what so ever or concerns to please contact me. As the lessee the Committee has a legal obligation to investigate any complaints and after being contacted by Shelley regarding the complaint I am getting her the answers so Shelley can go to committee with it. I understand that this complaint needs to be resolved as the Nursery are under the room and therefore the safety aspects of this need to addressed. I have already asked for details of the complaint and I am dealing with it from this end, but ultimately the committee make the decision regarding the room hire and how they wish to proceed. we had a visit from Ofsted last year with a list of issues raised by another department. The list referred to things within the nursery room and outside area's. When I informed Jean Gillies about the visit, she seemed to misunderstand and replied stating it was unusual for Ofsted to divulge where complaints had come from. Not what I said to her, so not sure why I got the reply that I did but no complaint was logged and the Ofsted inspector was more than happy with our provision

This is how it as been all along. We and the children and families of the area are just being held to ransom, they wont discuss the opportunity of funding for two year old children, until we sign an agreement without any compromise. They think the only way to serve the community is by putting on an occasional fun day. They don' t see that the nursery is a community service, its just all so ignorant. We wanted to discuss getting permission to buy and install a portakabin for extra space, they just not open to discussion

cant belive they want to close the nursery its very sad my son spent atleast 3 yrs there he loved it.

It would be nice. From our position we are thinking about the children we care for of the community.. this is why we want to stay. I wanted to also help a wider community by being on the committee but this was taken away from me by the HHCA.... i would love to be able to sit down and sort this out.

At the end of the day its all he said this...she said that. Do you not all think its about time you all got together like adults to sort all this out. Put any personal differences aside and start doing what's right for the community and children's welfare. The children are settled at their nursery and any nursery is a great part of any community so why close it. I think a meeting needs to be called to discuss all this. But like I said personal differences should not come in to it. Just think about the children and the community.

This is the best I could do to share Highfield not being open to discussion. One question was are you a parent of a child at nursery.
