It is a profound, five-alarm crisis when "kill the Jews" can be heard in the halls of district schools. Why are Jewish children not protected and made to feel safe? Is it your left-elite view that Jewish children somehow bear the stain of "settler colonialism"? Are you punishing kids in your care for the sake of some delusional ideology? Please step up. Be proactive. Be creative. Be humane. Get your heads out of global politics and into your community. Insure the physical and psychological well-being of the children with whom you have been entrusted.

I served on the Board of BUSD for 12 years and am deeply troubled to hear from community members that Jewish students do not feel safe in our schools. However, this is not a surprise. It is true that "BUSD has a history of not recognizing Jewish students as part of its equity and inclusion practices." It is also true that "failing to include our children in the district’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts is devastating for us" and undermines the safety of Jewish students in our schools. The requests made in this petition to communicate a no tolerance policy for antisemitism and to offer a listening session for parents and students from the Jewish community as well as a meeting with Jewish clergy are urgent steps that must be taken to address the unacceptable threats to the safety and well being of Jewish students and families in our schools.
