A gun shop is the LAST kind of business needed in Nauck. It will not serve any community need and will also attract individuals from other jurisdictions, possibly unfavorable elements, into our community. We also don't need our children growing up with a "community gun store" in the neighborhood where they walk to and from school. We need to focus on ways which we can create a culture of peace based on mutual respect for people. Guns do not figure into that equation.

People would be livid if this was happening in Clarendon or somewhere else in North Arlington. Don't let South Arlington become the gutter of our county. Keep the gun stores OUT!

I also do not favor the gun store - and not just because it will sell firearms. We need more retailers that will help build community through their presence and trade - someone mentioned a coffee shop, YES! There are very few places around this part of Arlington where someone can grab a cup and a seat for a few minutes, particularly in winter when other places take away their outdoor seating.

Gun shops are not neighborhood-serving businesses. They are best located in regional shopping centers where they can better serve customers from outside the neighorhood.

What's the problem? No benefits? How about tax base benefits and employing local Arlington residents to work there! Are they selling any illegal items? There's nothing inherently wrong with firearms. Their usage ranges from hunting, recreation, competition, to home and personal self-defense -- all good thigs! Anyone disagree with that? Why do you think law-enforcement has firearms? Ot's to protect themselves from bad guys with guns -- not to protect you! It seems to me that this petition is emotionally based and not factual. All firearms sold will be background checked, I'm sure -- it's the law! Let's see some facts on why this is anymore dangerous or undesirable than selling cigarettes or swimming pools, alcohol, or cars! Here's a simple solution. If you don't want to have a firearm, don't buy one! But don't impose your emotions on everyone else. Mind your own business.

It is certainly not hysterical to claim that "guns will kill children." It is a sad fact that guns are used to kill children, frequently, recently, accidentally and deliberately. It is simplistic, insincere, and dishonest to claim that it will not happen again. And it is callous in the extreme to claim that more guns will reduce the problem. The easy availability of guns in Virginia is a green light to those who want to and will abuse them. It is the very fact that South Arlingtonians are intelligent that they can see the phoniness of the gun lobby's arguments.

I have lived in south Arlington for more than 3 decades. I also spend a great deal of time in the Shenandoah valley, where gun ships proliferate. Guns shops in areas where hunting is a way of life and sheriffs are far away make more sense than gun shops in an urban, residential neighborhood. Further, who puts guns near schools? That is simple lunacy. I urge the County Board to reject any proposal for a gun shop in our neighborhood.

I'm of the opinion that if you don't like a particular legally run business you can simply not patronize it and nature will take its course.
