I am petitioning against both the proposed 165 houses in Colton and gypsy traveller site on Bullerthorpe Lane because of the effects thes will inevitably have on the local infrastructure especially the traffic (increased risk to pedestrian and cyclists), effect on the wildlife, local schools and the history.

The congestion is terrible at present, adding more houses and people will only make it worse. There are not enough schools to cope with an influx of children and not enough time to build more. The infrastructure cannot cope with the plans in their current format.

I am concerned about the impact of additional housing and a Gypsy and Travellers site on the surrounding area due to the increase in traffic, additional pressure on local services and facilities and the erosion of green belt land in the surrounding area.

I moved into Colton in February 1986 at the time of the first stage of its development when it was surrounded by Green Belt land. Since then the surrounding Green Belt has been decimated by the developments at Colton retail park, the construction of the A1 -M1 link, and the creation of Thorpe Park. Whilst it can be argued that these have provided local amenities, these amenities have also attracted greatly increased traffic from a much wider area, which has been, and continues to be, detrimental to the Colton residents themselves. Traffic using, or heading towards Bullerthorpe Lane, continues to use Colton lane as an alternative route in an attempt to avoid traffic snarl-ups at Colton retail park. This is despite increasingly desperate measures by the Council to control traffic flow and speed through Colton over the last couple of years.
Both the proposal to build an additional 165 houses in Colton and the proposal to place a Gypsy Traveller site on Bullerthorpe Lane can only create more traffic in Colton and the surrounding area. Both proposals are steps too far for Colton and its surrounding area: traffic will become even worse, more accidents will happen and increased demand for the local school will never be met.

We already have enough problems around Colton and crossgates with travelers leaving debry behind them when they leave, this will become an unsightly nuisance, why not go build one on ling lane

Heritage land - the area can't take more traffic - The land is wet enough already - Green belt land should remain so as we need more green places for walking - our children and grandchildren need to be able to explore the countryside with in easy distance. This site is not suitable for any more building - leave us some green space please !!

How will local schools cope with the additional demand. What are the plans to alleviate traffic congestion. Why use greenbelt land when brown belt land is available. Eroding areas where people enjoy walking, cycling ,wildlife etc makes no sense when other more suitable areas are available.

Colton and surrounding areas already have a great deal of congestion,both from Thorpe Park, retail park and A1/M1 link road.......we do NOT need this adding too!! Travelling sites cause mess and problems for local residents,which in turn will cause damage to wildlife and local history in and around Temple Newsam!!

I am totally opposed to the development of 165 additional houses and a travellers site near Colton. The roads around this area are becoming more and more congested with ever more traffic coming through Crossgates and Whitkirk for access to the M1. The development of Thorpe Park and Manston Lane area will already add to this burdon and therefore this development will only compound this problem. In addition there are insufficient school places already in the area and this planned development will compound this problem.The Greenbelt land in and around Temple Newsam is an haven of peace and tranquility for the local communities of East Leeds and any further encoachment would rob the local area of a valuable resource and an important environment for the wildlife.

How are they planning on entering the new housing site, when currently there are calming zones in place on Colton Road. Also the site that is proposed for the houses is in a dip (valley like field) with a water course running through the centre of this and would be more susceptible to flooding.
As for the proposed traveller site the planning is on Greenbelt, woodland area and is situated of a busy main road that already has a significant volume of traffic and is not suitable for large vehicles (eg. turning into proposed site). Even if they were to alter the road to make the site safe this would incure significant costs when there are other Brown field site available that already have acceptable access that would not disrupt traffic in the area. Also they would be demolishing a conservation picnic area enjoyed by many locals and visiting walkers.

How are they going to house any children that may move into the 165 houses when schools in the area are all already over subscribed to.
Traveller site is going to be destroying local park which is used by lots of locals including myself and is on Greenbelt land. Why not put it on brown belt land (eg. ex council tip site just off Bullerthorpe Lane)

Temple Newsham should be maintain as a natural space for future generations the road system around Stile hill is already under severe pressure this to be added to by the extra traffic from the further development of Thorpe park the initial phase of the east Leeds link road will not alleviate this problem

Agree with other posters that the infrastructure just isn't there, and the limited green space to the east and south east of being eroded by multiple other projects. Also I would echo the sentiments that there are plenty of other areas that would benefit from an injection of new (particularly young) population and economic growth. Areas in and around Bradford, Brighouse and Halifax, or some of the former mining towns a little further out, such as Castleford, Pontefract, Normanton and Featherstone would certainly benefit from an injection of younger families with money to spend in support of their local economies.

roads are too congested now! Colton, can not cope with more cars, its gridlocked as it is at rush hour, the infrastructure cannot accommodate more houses people and cars..
