If Leeds City Council wants a Gypsy Site I suggest they put it in their own back gardens.

How is this even possible? There's soo many other areas that would actually benefit from development.

Its not enough that they have all the new houses at Barrowby Lane, Thorpe Park, Manston and eventually going all the way over to Thorner that they now want to spoil another greenbelt area and who want to buy a new house next to a gypsy site they cause enough disruption to the community as it is. Not to mention the drastic affect it will have on the value to the existing properties are the council going to compensate people who already live there. I don't think so. SAY NO TO THIS DEVELOPEMNT

Why should some 1 who dosnt pay towards the community get free living and it's the surrounding arias that will be getin robbed not just Colton there are 2 many camps near buy as it as and in allways finding them in my garden or suff that I have bean keeping as sudenly gone it's not right iv had to builld a big locked fence and gate to try and keep them out

I think that the proposed travellers camp is probably a ruse to try and distract everyone from the main proposal they want to get through - the building of the houses on that lovely peaceful area . Britain is having less and less of these areas and the towns are becoming mirrors of each other . It is irresponsible to propose such a quantity of houses in this area fur obvious reasons not least infrastructure . I oppose this totally - houses and camp

Leeds city council have already ruined what was a village that had remained unspoiled since the domesday book was written. They lied about how many houses were going to be built, and brazenly 'slipped' many more in that they said they would. Another thing. Why a travellers site? They are, by the very nature of the word, "Travellers." We need this green built land for kids to connect with nature.

Building on greenbelt land in this area is not acceptable

Templenewsham is one of the most beautiful areas in Leeds that is fully open to the people of Leeds, to build a traveller camp and new homes on a green belt which the council have already seen fit to put a motorway through is ludicrous. The Colton area doesn't have the amenities to accommodate such an increase in people. The schools are at capacity with class sizes, and doctors surgerys impossible to get appointments. Then there is the impact on the wildlife. In the last few years the RSPB have reported breading buzzards, kites and the lesser spotted woodpecker in and around the Templenewsham woods and fields which shows how healthy and well maintained the woodland is also the return of deer and other large mammals. In recent years some of the housing estates in Leeds have had large areas of homes demolished and the land left empty and not rebuilt on (Gipton, Osmandthorpe and East end park) and to combat this you propose to destroy fields and parks to start a building project, when there is land available to put up homes that have gas and electricity lines all ready in place and cheaper to build. Swarcliffe and seacroft have seen a large number of homes put up on the A64 again a green belt reduced.

i am wholeheartedly against this plan and want to see this area protected

It is appalling that you pay to live in an area with allegedly protected green areas where home owners have limitations to extend however then the council take an iniative and the boundaries are changed, different rules for different agents eh?! The services in the area are already stretched to limits, today I twice called the local doctors surgery to be on hold for approx 30 minutes each time only to end up making the journey there as they were already too busy to answer calls, how on earth will they accommodate another community...or will the council magically generate more funds for the new community needs? Jokers

I've just bought a house in the area and these proposals are very worrying. Removal of green space to make way and added pressure on school places will ruin Colton.

I totally agree with everything written in the article 'coltonsayno' We paid over the odds for our properties for the local beauty spots, how dare they decided to build on green belt land now they taken our money.

There has to be a better alternative! People travel from all over to visit this area for recreational purposes. It would have a negative impact on local schools, roads and health care facilities aswell as intimidate some of our dearly loved elderly residents! I only heard about this through the grape vine and am deeply disturbed by the way it has been kept so quiet by the authorities as I guess they already know the proposal would be greatly disliked by locals!

I do not approve of green belt land being used and I am also concerned on the impact it will have on Colton a Village.

I can not believe that planning can be granted for this proposal, a traveller site located on green belt land right next to public bridleways on the verge of Temple Newsam estate, and Bullerthorpe lane is already heavily congested and in a very poor state of repair the extra traffics caused by the 165 houses I feel would cause traffic chaos.

Too much development happening in this area of East Leeds at the moment which the local infrastucture cannot sustain!
