Colorado College Yik Yak Punishments

The punishment for stupidity and immaturity without direct intention of being racist should not be being expelled or suspended for two years - much harsher than the sexual assault incidents - -- rather we need to engage these people in our community and push them towards having conversations with the hurt ones to grow as a community

This is decision shows terrible judgement by the CC administration. As an alumni, I find it embarassing!

Kids do dumb things, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a second chance. As a former Disciplinary Committee member, it seems like these two were scapegoats for a much larger issue, rather than held accountable solely for their individual actions. They deserve a chance to learn from their immature and stupid mistakes.

Education is the way forward. We don't get anywhere by taking that away from someone.

I would hope that the Colorado College Administration allows these students to return to campus and use the incidents to open real dialog and increase inclusiveness. The exceptionally harsh treatment and silencing of these young students will only create divisiveness and harden sides.

This is unbelievable and completely outrageous. Every single administrator that had any sort of involvement in passing down this punishment should be ashamed of themselves.

Horribly handled student disciplinary case. I would be shocked if their is not a succesful appeal. Far worse comments were made and somehow the student who has the heart to step up and be honest is the one persecuted to an unruly extent. Job horribly done Colorado College, your disciplinary committee should be deeply embarrassed.

Thad is a genuinely nice person who is not racist. Please do not let this seemingly minimal mistake ruin his educational prospects.

This is wrong and a violation of their First Amendment rights!

I've known Thad since childhood. He is not only uniquely friendly and warm to all people he meets, but I can't recall ever having heard a racist remark come out of his mouth. With that said, I don't agree with his comment, and I believe through the words in his appeal that he fully understands why it was offensive, inappropriate, and in bad taste. However, for Thad to recieve this sort of punishment is absolutely mind blowing. This is an egregious display of a disciplinary hearing process by Colorado College. If they haven't already realized how absurdly unjust and embarrassing, even, their handling has been of this situation, there's something seriously wrong with CC's administration. I sincerely hope this is resolved. Racism exists everywhere. I am a student at UCONN, and although the admin has done a fantastic job of keeping it "hush-hush" with the media (covering their own you-know-what), there have been serious issues with racial tolerance here on campus. It is extremely discouraging to see both my school and Thad's handle these issues in ways that do nothing to promote discussion and facilitate tolerance, instead further dividing those of differing views by condemning and ostracizing even the most subtle offender. To make a decision regarding Thad's situation without taking all evidence into consideration, and without conducting any sort of review of his character, brings the administration into very dangerous territory regarding acceptable utilization of authority. Give this guy a fair trial.

Pryor's comments were mean, inapporpriate, and unnecessary, but he was expressing OPINION nonetheless, and to ruin his academic career is a gross violation of the freedom of speech.

I completely disagree with the sentiment behind the jokes of the suspended student, but suspending him because you disagree with what he says is completely ridiculous.

I've known Thad for years and have had the pleasure of being his supervisor at work for a time. He's a great person with a vast depth of character.

As a recent grad, I am extremely embarrassed to admit to CC being my Alma Mater after decisions like this. I feel as though Thad was chosen as a scape goat and the administration does not want to admit to the fact that they made a harsh decisions and retract it, ultimately ruining one man's life. I urge all the alumni to STOP their donations to CC until this gets properly addressed, not by citing irrelevant quotes from path finder, but by reversing this absolutely heinous decision.

I do not stand for racism in any regard, but its seems as if Thad has become a scapegoat for a much larger campus issue that needs to continue being addressed. The comment was distasteful, but not worthy of a 2 year suspension. A retrial should take place.

CC needs to learn that throwing people out of the school does not better the community. It does not teach those involved. It does not teach the student body. It is extremely ignorant, and it deeply troubles me that they are not taking more progressive measures to confront such flagrant racism at the school.
