THIS PETITION IS FOR COLORADO RESIDENT MOTOR VEHICLE OWNERS ONLY!

Colorado Fourteeners Initiative is working to get a group specialty license plate authorized for 14er enthusiasts that will promote Colorado's 14ers and help raise funds to support CFI's mountain stewardship work. Please complete the online petition and help CFI get 4,000 commitments to buy these specialty license plates by November.

CFI is a Golden-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that assists the Forest Service and BLM in preserving and protecting the natural integrity of Colorado's 54+ 14,000-foot peaks through active stewardship and public education. To date CFI has constructed 29 sustainably designed, durably constructed summit routes on 26 14er peaks, engaged more than 12,000 days of volunteer trail maintenance, and directly contacted more than 60,000 hikers on the 14ers to stress the importance of Leave No Trace hiking practices.

Thanks to those of you who helped select our license plate design that is displayed on this page. The plate features a climber celebrating at sunrise after ascending one of the state's iconic 14ers, while CFI's logo and the tagline "Protecting Our 14ers" urges everyone to action to protect these world-famous mountains. Show your support for CFI's work on the 14ers by signing the petition and buying a set of these specialty license plates.

The next step in the license plate approval process requires CFI to obtain "commitments to purchase" these specialty license plates from at least 3,000 Colorado residents (Sorry, all of you 14er fans across the country, but you must be a Colorado resident and licensed driver to sign the petition and buy the plates). To ensure we get these commitments lined up in time to submit a bill to the state legislature in January of 2016, CFI is seeking to collect 4,000 signatures by September 30, 2015.

If approved by the legislature next year, the specialty license plates should be produced and available for purchase by 2017. The specialty license plate will remain in production as long as more than 3,000 plates are in circulation. If the circulation drops below 3,000 plates, the state DMV can retire the license plate.

People interested in purchasing the "Protecting Our 14ers" license plate must first make a one-time $25 donation to Colorado Fourteeners Initiative to obtain a required certificate. This donation, which will help support CFI's ongoing stewardship work on the 14ers, is in addition to the $50 fee collected by the government for all specialty license plates.

FOR YOUR PETITION TO BE VAILD, YOU MUST:
1) LIVE IN COLORADO AND BE A COLORADO MOTOR VEHICLE OWNER
2) COMPLETE ALL INFORMATION REQUESTED (full name, email address, full residence address, including county of residence)
3) COMMIT TO BUYING THE LICENSE PLATE WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE, including paying the $25 to CFI and $50 to DMV.

CFI will only share this petition information with the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles and the Colorado Legislature as part of the formal specialty license plate application process. CFI will not share, sell or give your personal information to any other organization or entity.

*NOTE: After you click the "Sign Now" button, you may be presented with a donation page from iPetitions, the service that is hosting CFI's petition. Please be aware that this is optional and is completely unrelated to both the Colorado 14ers license plate application process and Colorado Fourteeners Initiative. Providing a donation to iPetitions will in no way benefit CFI or work on Colorado's 14ers. Should you elect to make a donation, 100% of your gift goes to iPetitions.
