There is a brand new playground at College Park School. This playground is a great new addition for children at school and in the neighbourhood; however, it is a sad disappointment that woodchips were used as ground cover on such a wonderful new playground. The problems with woodchips are many: woodchips are difficult for young children to walk on, cause injury to skin and eyes, can easily hide dangerous articles such as needles and blades, become moldy over time, and stick to clothing and shoes. The playground should be safe and comfortable for children of all ages to play and woodchips do not provide such conditions. The citizens of College Park strongly urge the replacement of woodchips with rubber flooring such as that used at the Farmer's Market playground and Kinsmen Park to reduce risk of injury and provide a safe playground for children to enjoy.

My son trips constantly on these chips and they get stuck in his shoes every single day. Rubber would be so much safer and cleaner for everyone.
