We are writing on behalf of concerned students regarding the handling of exams during the current Code Orange situation.

Since Monday, the entire country has been under Code Orange: trains are not running, buses are limited, and many people cannot leave airports due to flight cancellations. Roads in and around Nijmegen are poorly cleared, making travel dangerous for students coming from outside the city. Cyclists risk serious injuries as streets and bike paths are icy and not properly salted. Weather forecasts indicate that conditions will not improve in the coming days. Despite this, the university has applied inconsistent policies: earlier today it was decided at 12:45 that students who can arrive safely should attend exams, while evening exams at 6:00 were cancelled. On Monday, exams went ahead under the same conditions, causing confusion and stress.

This approach puts students at risk, creates unfairness, and prevents proper planning. We therefore request:

1. Clear and timely communication regarding whether exams will proceed under Code Orange.

2. That student safety is explicitly prioritized in all decisions.

3. A third opportunity for students unable to attend due to these circumstances.

4. A review of emergency exam policies to ensure consistent, transparent, and safe practices.

We have included a list of all students who agree with this statement and have offered their support; you will find both their names and their Radboud emails in the attached document.

We urge the Radboud university to provide clear guidance as soon as possible so that students can make safe and informed decisions.

The situation is unfair given that people are still required to be present even though some international students can't reach the Netherlands in time for their exams.

I have not been a victim of the situation. However, I spent all day volunteering and driving students around. They were stranded at Radboud campus with no way home. Ubers and taxis were unavailable due to high demand. I can confirm that the roads were not safe to be driving or biking on and am beyond shocked by the university’s lack of responsibility for student safety.

I had an exam today 7th Jan and I had to walk to Uni for 1 hr since the Radboud didn’t make any adjustments.

Zoek alternatief vervoer wordt er gezegd. Lekker makkelijk.

I have missed a resit due to my flight getting cancelled. I was told I will have to take another module despite my already busy workload.

I have missed an exam due to an IT failure and snow at NS, Tuesday morning at 8.30. Not a single NS train was on the railways. Rijkswaterstaat advised people to stay off the roads. The uni has told me it was my own responsibility to be there, and that they will not offer extra opportunities. How is this okay?

Because there is another case of code orange and the university has not been saying anything about it as off the night before
