The need to have an institution that people can assess for themselves as transparent is paramount

Not a Cochrane member but I admire the work by Cochrane, the rigorous scientific quality of their reviews and their inspiring critique of poor quality research and corporate interests. However, I am like many others saddened by the recent events in Cochrane. I hope that Cochrane can come back to the principles of transparency and protecting the freedom of expression.

I sign this petition. Rokuro Hama Chairperson "Med Check" NPOJIP: Non-Profit Organization "Japan Institute of Pharmacovigilance" publishing ISDB-full-membership Drug Bulletin Followings are from the editorial of our latest issue of our bulletin "Med Check TIP" *************************** Now it is clear that only the information which is totally independent of pharmaceutical companies is reliable. What is important is not simply the transparency of conflict of interest, but the fact that conflicts of interest distort scientific information. If conflict of interest is not eliminated, Cochrane will no longer be trusted by patients and medical professionals. The current governing board does not represent the opinions of Cochrane because half of members who are critical to the decision by the current governing board. Hence, we support the views of Dr. Peter Gøtzsche and the ISDB Committee that the current board should be dissolved and reelected. In addition, we believe that the Articles of Cochrane (note) should be amended as well. ********************************** From the Editorial of 80th issue of “Med Check TIP” (in Japanese) published in November 2018 and “Med Check TIP” in English which will be published December 2018 https://npojip.org/english/MedCheck/medchecktip.html note: according to the Articles of Cochrane, the number of the board members should not be less than three.
