The rise on fees will only put a further strain on students who are already struggling to pay the current fees and who are still adjusting to that implementation of VAT. These fees are unfair to us and will force many who cannot afford it to drop out. The country should be encouraging us to further our education by making it better and more affordable instead we are constantly being discouraged to seek education in our own home.

I think the raise in tuition Is not needed at this time. Presently, more than half of the student population at COB are on scholarships (whether private, government, work study and financial aid). This is a clear indication, that it is a CONSTANT struggle for many persons who are attempting to attain a tertiary education. I am so disheartened that the government would even consider increasing the fees by 50% during the next three semesters. It is apparent that this government is not for young Bahamians, the future leaders, doctors, teachers, nurses, architects, lawyers etc... of our country. While there are other colleges, The College of the Bahamas is "suppose" to be the state school. Therefore, it should be affordable and available to the masses! I leave them with this quote, "Education is the catalyst for change in our society. It is through knowledge that we change our attitudes and beliefs and consequently our behaviours".

According to Brown (2015), “only 17 percent of the country’s population has received tertiary education qualifications, according to preliminary results from National Development Plan (NDP) studies" (para.1). Why make receiving tertiary education harder? Might we also remind the public that minimum wage remains the same and if not all most students at the College of the Bahamas independently pay their own tuition fees.

If youths are the future, then we should be investing in them not kicking them to the side. The tuition increase is another disgraceful attempt to keep Bahamians uneducated!!!!!!!!!!!

why is it that education has to help carry the burden of this country? We students are the deciding factor in the next election and the future leaders of this country. This makes me feel as though they want the masses to stay uneducated and constantly relying on the government. We are all capable of becoming valuable persons to our homes, communities and country if we are all given a fair chance and an opportunity. And this right here (tuition increase) is the exact opposite! I am a 3rd year student who work full time and go to school full time. I already find it difficult to pay my school bill. I'm a waitress who only makes $4 an hour and I bust my tail to make sure my fees get paid. So with the increase where does that leave me now? Stuck as a waitress for the rest of my life because I cannot afford to go to school, no one else will hire me because I do not have a degree in the field (nor the minimum 3years experience they require you to have) and going no where in life. All simply because education has to carry the weight. "Smh"
