Cobh's Titanic "White Star Line" Pier is not for Drowning. Save Our Promenade

These works should be about preservation of that peir for future generations. And the taking of public land from the Promenade to be given to build a kiosk and charge people to enter is appalling. There should have been a public meeting held about this to better inform the public who are only now realising what's happening and that planning has gone through.

this will completely change the look of our heritage town, we need a design to fit in with our town not misshape it

You need to rethink the design. It has nothing to do with the history of the pier, nor has the design any connection with the architecture and landscape around it - it's very poorly thought out. This should not get approval in it's current form.

Keep Cobh beautiful for both locals and visitors. Stop the privatisation and profit making against the best interest of locals, under the false pretense it's good for the local economy. Preserve heritage with respect for the structures, the natural environment and the locals.

Planning Application Reference Number: 17/7029 Applicant: Titanic Experience Cobh Ltd Description of Development: To erect a pedestrian walkway and viewing platform over the existing Titanic Pier with sail style canopies, associated conservation works to the original pier structure. The walkway structure will be supported by circular hollow steel piles driven into the seabed. It is also proposed to install a kiosk structure, turnstile and glass screen on the south west corner of the Parade Grounds. The kiosk will function as the ticket office and entrance to the walkway. Location: Titanic pier, adjacent to 20 casement square ballyvoloon, cobh co. cork. A Chara, I refer to the above planning application and wish to make the following objection in relation to the proposed development. I have also attached a petition with over 300 signatures against the above planning application. This petition went live at 1700hrs tuesday 2nd January 2018 I wish to object to the proposed development based on the points outlined below: I have concerns of the height and overall size of the proposed sail style canopies & how it will have a hugely negative effect on many viewpoints within the public promenade. As of right now the whole harbour can be viewed from all viewpoints in the promenade, allowing these sail type canopies to be constructed will drastically diminish viewing of the whole natural harbour which has been enjoyed and loved by all visitors to the public promenade for centuries. Preserve the pier please! Building anything on top or around it , surely will endanger already very fragile structure. Would be a shame if it got further damaged!

Remember the Town Council took away the Disability Parking to facilitate the Titanic now they want to give them part of the people’s Park. When is it all going to stop handing bits of our town to private developers

Disgraceful Typical Beauracy Anything For Profit Is Good But Not If It's Not Available To The People That Live Here.

It is vital the Titanic Pier is restored and protected in a manner that reflects its original appearance, this proposal is very different to this. The sails structure will radically change the view of the historic front of Cobh especially from the sea where she looks her most splendid but also from The Prom where many photos are taken. One of the charms of Cobh is it maintains a traditional appearance reflective of its historic past. Any new developments need to reflect this. Allowing access through The Promenade will have a major impact on a public amenity. No such structure should be put in here as it will have a major negative impact on the much loved Prom. Many of the activities that happen in The Prom associated with festivals etc. throughout the year such as Market Stalls, Crab Fishing, Triathlon & Regatta could either be severely impacted or unable to happen if this proposal goes ahead.

Needs to be fully accessible without charges or fees, national heritage monument integrated to be an inclusive part of Cobh. No commercial interests attached.
