The organization making this state park is deliberately disrespecting the ancestors of the local Native Americans, by naming it the "Cotoni" rather than “Awaswas”. Valentin Lopez notes, (Chairman of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band), "...we’d like to ask the county citizens to consider naming the proposed national monument in a way that restores and respects our Awaswas heritage. Our preferred name is Awaswas Coastal National Monument. We hope you will consider our request — tumsan-ak kannis...".

Santa Cruz county is already overrun by people and cars. We don't need one more person visiting our pristine north coast. No National Monument at his time.

The inland portion of this land has been, essentially, wilderness for a great many years. This has contributed to helping maintain the fragile ecological balance in the Santa Cruz Mtns. As more and more people populate these mountains, the wild creatures are being squeezed into smaller and smaller tracts of land. I do not support a national monument designation for this land.

I agree with the tenents of this petition. We should take the time to do this right. Santa Cruz is already overrun with people. I can't image how Davenport would be able to deal with the increased use, nor what the effect would be on the environment.

Davenport is an authentic, in-tact community that is vital, rare, diverse, and self-sustaining. It is a small, beautiful hamlet, neighbors help each other in times of need, and generations of folks have raised their kids and gotten along.
This designation would compromise the limited carrying capacity of this town and flood the already conjested highway.
Furthermore, there is not adequate maintenance or on-going monitoring for the project. The potential impact of the proposed project on private land, community resources such as the elementary school, is severe and negative. The impact on cultural and historic resources is profound and possibly irreversible.
I am opposed to this project.

Sometimes we can love something to death. We need to remember that the balance that preserves this land probable does not include hundrers of feet tromping every where. this can still be protected but not with out careful planning . WE can barely get across town now how are we going to get there on small country roads and across a grid locked west side, Please Just think first .

I am strongly opposed to monument status. The trash is overflowing on North Coast beaches, graffiti and plastic everywhere. Highway One is not designed for the current heavy traffic, let alone the massive increase. JUST SAY NO!!!

Thank you! The first media notice on this subject presented it as an already done deal, inviting pro-supporters to a one-way "conversation". Fort ord is next to an off ramp of a major freeway. Mission street is not; it cannot absorb the impact!

Please take a rational approach. Do research and determine the most appropriate use(s) of land. If One acts hastily, we are likely to see significant negative impact on communities of humans andthe communities of plants and animals

As a former member of the Coast Dairies Advisory Committee so many years ago and an ED/Founder of Monterey Bay Conservancy ( www.facebook.com/montereybayconservancy ), imho the Coast Dairies "National Monument" is no more than a fiction contrived to raise funding for favored local and non local eco nonprofits and other like eco gmos and non gmos. On the other hand, we do have a true "National Monument" worthy resource here very similar to Coast Dairies in size and scale but far more important in terms of "National Monument" status, funding, and protection ... I call it "The Monterey Bay Estuarine National Monument", a 8000 acre, $400 million coastside aquisition running from Elkhorn Slough through the Watsonville Slough and Wetlands system ... Lets step back and take a careful look at what is going on here. this is not what it appears to be on the surface. protections are already in place, this is a land grab, will bankrupt local schools and increase pressure on the already stressed natural resources. Reconsider Please!
