I am in full support of Coach Z he was a father figure to me and countless others. His passion and love for the sport and more importantly; the young men and women under his care is immeasurable. God Bless Coach Z and I hope Hunter Colleges reconsiders their decision.

I can't believe Hunter would squander this resource of skill and experience. Mark Bornfeld Brooklyn Technical High School Class of 1969

Mr. Z deserves to retire if he choose to on his own terms!

Mr. Z gave me the ability to reach down deep for something that made me persevere! The discipline instilled in me by his track program while attending Brooklyn Tech 81-85 help me honorably serve over 20 years in the US Navy and retire as a combat veteran Chief Petty Officer!! Ed Zarowin DESERVES to choose how he wants to retire! Life experiences makes one who he/she is. My experiences with Mr. Z as my coach has helped me be the man I am today!

There's so much to be said about our coach Z. He's not only a coach, he's a father figure, a brother, a friend and a teammate. Full of energy and wisedom, he guided generations of athletes from a lost souls to a successful members of our society. We all know coach Z has his unique style of running the track team, but the athletic department should have dealt with the situation differently.

I coached Men's Basketball at Hunter College for 11 years.9 as assistant and JV COACH 2 as Head Men's Basketball coach. In that time I have head the incredible good fortune to know coach Z. Regardless of 1 Unsatifactory rating over entirely trivial matters during a time he was supporting his wife of over 67 years. Ed's incredible accomplishments over a 31 year career has more than earned him the right to coach till he himself does not want to anymore. What Hunter College is doing to him is cold hearted.totally unfair and an absolutely obvious case of age discrimination that is illegal and the college will lose. Rethink this Hunter ,bring Z back and just DO THE RIGHT THING!!

Mr. Z, (as we called him at Bklyn Tech) was and is one of the most influential people to enter my life. He has made a huge difference in countless peoples' lives. Age will not alter his abilities. Hunter should be proud to welcome back each season. The behavior of Hunter college and their athletic director is appalling.

Mr. Zarowin was my former coach at Brooklyn Tech and at Hunter College. During the time I was his student his couching skills allowed me to win New York City and New York State championships. During the many years he has dedicated to inspire young athletes it is a TOTAL SHAME Hunter College is doing this to him. He should continue working until his heart desires to

What a disgrace that an uninformed individual, such as this AD has chosen this path! Ed Zarowin, is, in my opinion the absolutely best coach of X country and Track and Field that has ever been in such a position! His knowledge exceeds belief, and he has always been a role model for me! Coached for over 30 years, HS and college and he is by far the most knowledgeable coach I have ever met! The reasons given by the AD is a joke! He can do the AD job better than this person with his eyes closed! As a retired Teacher and coach in NYC board of education, I believe that the Mayor should be looking into this, now!

Although your point MIGHT be valid, what you're stating is that if someone is suddenly not producing like how he was in the past, that he should be fired right away? Not given a chance to compromise and fix what is broken, and erase his credibility as a coach? A lot of professional athletic teams goes through a slump and even the coach, manager is given multiple years to try and prove themselves that they can manage their team to start winning again. Quick example, Girardi of the NYY missing the playoffs twice in his career in a team that always was in the playoffs, more often than not, is still not fired. The point of this petition is someone who is as decorated as Coach Z should at least be given the opportunity to end in HIS own terms.

For all of his contributions to Hunter College Athletics and the countless student athletes' lives he has touched along the way, Coach Z deserves every opportunity to finish his illustrious career on his own terms.

Coach Z was a great coach and an inspiration to many of the athletes at Hunter. He's put in a lot of time and energy into the track & field program and is well known for his achievements. He should be allowed to retire on his own terms.

My name is Walter Rodriguez ’16. As a current athlete, I have to respectfully disagree with this petition. Coach Z was a great coach a while back, but, currently, as a student-athlete under Coach Z my experience has been negative. I have not grown as an athlete because his current coaching methods have not allowed for me to be successful, and our small team only grows smaller and less prosperous. There is a reason the Hunter College XC/T&F has not been relevant for the last couple of years. Coach Z has become unable to currently create a team environment where athletes buy into the system has resulted in loss of numbers year after year. I am completely thankful for the administration who has made the hard decisions to benefit and put us, the student athletes, first in their agenda. The whole story is not told in the paragraph written above. Some of my teammates and I would love to respectfully share our experiences as a current athletes with any alumni who may have questions or would just like to speak about any aspect of the team. Here is my email and I look forward to any emails I receive: [email protected].

“A good coach will make his players see what they can be rather than what they are.” – Ara Parseghian (Football Coach) Coach Z did this on a daily basis. Please do right by him.

As a member of the 1993 Academic All-American X-Country team I find this disgraceful. Coach Z has had numerous awards and all Americans over the years. Despicable!
