The council agreed to purchase the land and we have officially secured the trail space. I have spent many long nights wondering if this would actually happen but the outcome is finally ours. Now we watch to ensure the transition moves forward as planned.

CN Rail is abandoning its railway from Joseph Howe Drive to Lakeside. HRM Council has the option to purchase this land, but must do so by March 6, 2008. This is an exciting opportunity to convert rails to trails. You can walk, run, cycle, get out in a wheelchair or mobility scooter... eight kilometres to enjoy, and it\'ll link to existing trails all the way to St. Margaret\'s Bay. Council needs to know people support this opportunity. Your address, phone number, and email address will not be shared or made public in any way except to HRM Council. ================================================= I support purchasing the Joseph Howe Drive to Lakeside rail spur line and converting it to a community recreational trail. =================================================

The momentum behind this trail project is finally undeniable and it keeps me going through the long hours. We still have a steep climb ahead of us to convince the council but this wave of support proves we are not fighting alone.

This is a no brainer. Think about how much better it would be to have a bike link all the way to St Margarets Bay. DO IT.

My family would use this all the time. It is such a shame to let that land sit there doing nothing when it could be a beautiful park space.

This would be amazing for the community. We really need more places to bike safely around here.
