It's absolutely disgraceful that the university would ever consider selling the Hoffman forest. It's even more disgraceful the manner in which they have went about it. I'm certain some open discussion with all the stakeholder of the Hoffman Forest could produce a much better outcome where the university remains ownership, the annual income stream from the forest is increased and the forest is maintain in a sustainable state for future generations. We can do better!

The decision to sell the Hoffman State Forest is a narrow, short sighted one. Sustainably, sensibly harvesting timber provides can provide income for the college for years to come.
Jacksonville is already filled with homes that sit empty for months, if not years, and packed with box stores. I enjoy the drive to New Bern because it is the last unbroken stretch of forest in the area.

I don’t think donor Julius Hofmann would approve of this travesty committed on the citizens of North Carolina and, as I am, would be very disappointed in the sale of this very valuable public land to commercial interests.

This old man of 65 remember the walks and study of nature through the omniscient Hoffman Forest. I have taken my children on nature walks and was hoping to take my grandchildren.It would be a crime for the children and people of NC not to have this asset and God's gift to us all. Please rethink and do not sell this beautiful forest.

How can we teach conservation and sustainability of our natural resources by the sale of a key environmental asset???????????? Further, it has not been made 100% clear what the buyer's intentions are. I think the sale should be postponed until we know all the answers.

As a student at NC State University and a member a well known honors agricultural fraternity on my campus, I know very well of the importance and utilization of forestry for research and natural resources. Our campus is well known for Agriculture and Research, so selling Hofmann Forest would seem like our school is taking a step backwards. Don't sell the forest, it's serving its best purpose right now in its natural state.

Research forest reserves are necessary for long term studies of ecological changes in our environment. Acid rain and its source was discovered in the Hubbard Brook research forest.The discovery led to regulations that have significanly reduced the of acid rain. NC forest research is necessary to understand the impacts of development on our state.

The forest was bequested with the intention it should always be preserved. Selling it will cause it to sooner or later be developed or turned into agricultural land. It is immoral.

We North Carolinians need natural rescources like this to contribute to the education of young people who only have computers and city streets. Nature gives educational advantages to us as a people without regard to money status.

How despicable on the part of the University! I'm sure they thought they needed the money, but the land was given to them to keep stewardship of, not to sell off when they felt like it.

Hoffman Forest was entrusted to the stewardship of Land granted University North Carolina State. They have no right to sell it.
NCSU was being all squirrely and non-participatory when asked to step up and include Hoffman Forrest portion in NC Mountains to the Sea Trail. Those greedy bastards already had visions of subdivisions, not nature preserve. They have broken their trust. Off with their heads!
