Selling at state asset - yes, the Hofmann Forest IS a state asset because NCSU is a state university - without public discourse and process is unacceptable. Given that the Hofmann Forest is a unique natural resource, doing so is shameful and smacks of graft. As an alumnus I question whether future gifts to the university will also be misused in such a heinous manner. Who at NCSU is behind this disgrace? He/she certainly doesn't have the long term interests of the university and the people of North Carolina at heart. He/she should be thoroughly investigated and likely dismissed if not brought up on charges. Stop this sale NOW.

This is public land! If it has been private all these years then there are DECADES of taxes owed. Why is so much land grabbing and forest clearing suddenly occurring now that Republicans control NC government? Get it quick before citizens figure out what's happening?

This sale is an appalling decision. This land was given to the NCSU School of Forestry for the purpose of research, education and income. The land was not donated to be carved up for sale for subdivision with the proceeds wagered on stock market derivatives.

I was the Association Ranger for the Hoffman Forest for four years starting in August of 1972. After that I was the Onslow county Forest Ranger for 26 years. Having said that, for 30 years it was my pleasure to help ensure that the Hoffman remained as fire safe as possible. It is a special place that a lot of the NC Forest Service personnel have come to appreciate for it's natural beauty. Yes, a pocosin can have beauty.

The loss of the Hofmann Forest would be a huge loss to the University, the College of Natural Resources, and to the citizens of North Carolina as well of all citizens of the US.
