Please do not sell an education site to be used for commercial development. Having taught for 40 years, I know the benefits of field trips to enhance students' learning. Thanks for your consideration of my request.

Destroying the Hofmann Forest is a crime against humanity, against the wildlife who live there, and against our One Earth. It is OUR responsibility as citizens everywhere in world to protect OUR planet. It is our responsibility to help protect the environment, the innocent & defenseless animals....we must each understand that it's also our future that is in danger.
As documented in Jared Diamond's book 'Collapse,' every civilization that forgot its trees began a cascade of life support failures, and ultimately disappeared. Those who remembered and cherished their trees and reversed the trend, saved themselves."
"Only when the last tree has been cut down; Only when the last river has been poisoned; Only when the last fish has been caught; Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten." (Native American proverb)
"Man will be surprised to find where animals fit in. All that is done is recorded & foolish people think the harm they've done to animals will not count. It will! All that the Creator's made is not to be taken lightly." -from The Watchers II by Raymond Fowler

If you sale the forest then the animals within it will be displaced. It is sad to think that the State of North Carolina cares more about the money they will gain than the well being of its residents and the wonderful animals of the forest.

Selling Hofmann Forest is not a reasonable idea. It doesn't pass the "Common Sense" sniff test.
The proponents of this sale have their "spin" machine working overtime to sell this preposterous idea.

I live next to this forest and it being destroyed for corn would be a disgusting loss and would destroy a vital eco system in coastal Carolina!

How can the state of North Carolina sell such a unique, public, asset to private developers? If this is public land, doesn't the public have the right to decide its fate in a vote? If this is public land, doesn't the state have the responsibility to go through an environmental impact study to determine the effect of development on it? The state is not following the law with this land.

Shameful that my own university would do such a thing, and that we are all having to spend our time fighting this fight, when there are so many more battles that need our attention.

This is a travesty! No more land like this will ever exist and turning it into farming, and development for recreation commerce is just crazy. I bought a t-shirt in Costa Rica and it reads, "Only when the last tree has died & the last river has been poisoned & the last fish has been caught will we realize that we can not eat money." I think this summarizes the situation pretty succinctly.

Please don't sell this property, especially to someone who might not keep it in its natural state. The acquisition of Hofman by the university was for a purpose. Please continue its educational and supportive objectives.
