NCSU Alumni & Friends Against the Sale of the Hofmann Forest

If this forest is sold, it will surely be developed as the possibilities show in the prospectus. A possible profit of over 250 million dollars by Hoffman LLC guarantees it.

Once lost and developed it can't be replaced. NCSU should be more interested in protecting irreplaceable resources than in simply selling them to the highest bidder.

What a disgusting shame that the almighty dollar trumps all else. It has not been that long ago that students would have shut the entire University down over something so brazen and destructive. This awesome natural resource cannot be replaced. We must do whatever is necessary to stop this rape of our state. A very dark time for NCSU!!

I am shocked and appalled by the duplicity of the NCSU Board of Trustees, Dean of CNR, and others involved in secretive negotiations and false representations to students, alumni, and faculty with regard to the proposed sale of the Hoffman Forest.

Outrageous attempt to perpetrate such a great loss on the citizens of NC. Makes me ashamed to be an alumnus.

The sale of Hofmann Forest will represent an enormous loss to the people of NC. The almost unmatched size of this parcel has a major effect on endangered species, runoff and will never be replaced by small isolated plots of timbered lands.

I consider the sale of the Hofmann to be a significant losss to N.C., NCSU, School of Natural Resources, students and alumni of NCSU. TSR, BS forest Management 1950

I oppose the sale of Hofman Forest.

The buyer must only be prepared to purchase provided some of the forest is cleared.

The news of the sale of Hofmann Forest comes as a bigger shame to this NCSU alum than the plans to cut out a huge chunk of old growth forest in Raleigh to make way for a new Chancellor's mansion and golf course. Hofmann Forest is a resource that cannot be regained by the university, and the sale will certainly lead to its demise. Houses and farmland: the destiny that has been fulfilled by far too much coastal habitat. Several classes I took at NCSU taught me the importance of the coastal pine forests, especially given the decimation of such forests. Yet here we are, the university chooses to ignore the cries of its own educated people, considering its legacy's value only in monetary terms. This is shameful.

CNR is not upholding its mission within this land grant university to serve the people. I graduated from CNR in 2010 and left with an ethic of conserving land for the public good, while also allowing means of production (in this case trees). Trees provide enumerable services for the environment and people. Cutting down 30,000 acres to make way for houses and chemical intensive crops will have unmeasurable effects on the people, plants, and animals in the area. If this sale goes through I will find it inconsistent with my values to continue contributing to the college and university.

Please do not destroy this forest for golf courses and houses! We have houses in foreclosure in this area now. We need to keep this forest intact for the wildlife in the area.

The University needs to keep a long term perspective and preserve this unique habitat for its educational and environmental benefit.

DO THE RIGHT THING! Please protect Hofmann forest for future generations! Search your heart and you will realize that no amount of money can replace a forest once it is lost forever.

The Hofmann forest is a gem and to sell it to a big agriculture company would be tragically short-sighted! North Carolina draws so many tourists with its natural beauty...not with acres of corn and soybeans!

This Forest is Eastern Natural Resource that should be left for Many future generations to see and enjoy. Once it is lost it will be so forever. Please save the Forest for the Future Generations.

Stop this awful idea now. Save the Hofmann forest!

Saving this legacy forest is the ONLY option.

We need the few remaining unleveled forest we have.
