NCSU Alumni & Friends Against the Sale of the Hofmann Forest

Current NC State engineering student and NC State Steward. Immediate gains cannot outweigh the loss of the environmental landmark that is the Hofmann forest.

This is a irreversable travesty.

There is no going back if the forest is sold. It would be a tragedy for the state of NC as well as the nation if it is developed. Save the forest!

I am a NCSU alumni,Forestry Class, 1960 and retired Registered Forester #68 in the State of N.C. And a retired Forester from the N. C. Forest Service in 1997 and a retired Consulting Forest in 2007. I am totally against the sale of the Hofmann Forest as is presently proposed.

NC does not need additional deforestation. Let the fat ass yankee farmer clear his land where there is not as much biodiversity

This sale is entirely not in the interests of CNR or NCSU.....

It appears that the sale of the Hofmann Forest has been misrepresented to the public. Misrepresentation includes the October Society of American Foresters NCSU alumni luncheon which I attended.The Dean of the College of Natural Resources clearly and repeatably stated the the Hofmann Forest would be used in a similar manner as it's current use. Recent reports yields a quite different use which includes forest clearing to allow for agricultural crops and commercial development. Please do everything possible to reverse the sale of the Hofmann Forest.

NCSU Class of '07. C'mon NCSU, save the Hofmann!

This will change the lives of many people in Onslow County. Camp Lejeune does not need more land to use for training. It is a sad day when the natural resources of Hofmann Forest will be turned over to development. The citizens loose again.

Doesn't this sale of public lands require an environmental assessment and/or endangered species act sigh-off as non-critical habitat??

1977 graduate of NC State. My great uncle John Gatling left his entire estate to NCSU. He would be so disappointed to know that Hofmann Forest was sold for development. Timbering the land is OK and healthy for the forest but no development. NCSU should retain ownership of Hofmann for research and environmental purposes.

I can't believe NC State University is doing this. It is an affront to the citizens of North Carolina and a detriment to the wildlife and natural areas of the eastern part of the state. And done in such an underhanded way.

I think this is a rash and foolish decision by a small number of people that will result in a major loss to our state.

This is absolutely awful, another nail in the coffin for a state desperately struggling against profit mongers in positions of power. If those of us who understand the fragile interconnectedness of our natural world don't stand up and raise hell, there won't be any state birds or flowers left but the ones in our history books. It is simply not ethical to raze the majority of the Triangle area to make way for housing and economic development. We're not the only species which needs housing, and believe it or not, we can't survive without healthy forests and clean air. Not to mention access to clean water, which we can't keep taking for granted. Sorry, Woodson, Watzin, and Brickhouse. Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell, and you are sick schmucks.

I hope this proposed sale doesn't reflect the mission of NCSU or CNR. Find other alternatives to generate $ for NCSU programs.

What a ridiculous decision!! Please reconsider the sale of Hofmann Forest.

Don't sell it.

I am against the sale of the Hofmann Forest. I studied forestry in Munich, Germany and I remember some of our professors telling us about the Hofmann Forest and what a great asset it is for the forestry students and faculty to have a learning and income facility like that. A forest like that can show to the public that forestry can be financially and ecologically sustainable. Selling the forest would show exactly the opposite. It would show the public that we can not manage forests sustainable and therefor that our profession is useless. This is not a picture a Dean of a College of Natural Resources should paint to make the college attractive.

It would be nice if, for once, we could treat natural resources as something besides another means to turn a quick buck.

This forest should not be sold to those who are only going to turn around and rape it for profits. That is a disservice to all NC residents. This forest needs to stay within the University system for continues use and research by our forestry students and others alike who need it for advanced studies.
