Hopefully this can snowball to the other parks around Modesto.

I have lived in this neighborhood for 10 years. I have always loved the charm, history and community spirit that the college neighborhood possesses. As a parent of 2 small children ages 6 and 3, I would love to be able to use Graceda park without fear and concern. But that is not the case. I am constantly afraid each time we go for all of the reasons mentioned in this petition. If we ride our bikes, I have to watch our belongings like a hawk as well as my children. We only stay for a short time because inevitably there is an influx of shady characters around the playground. Also, there is so much trash scattered throughout the play area it looks like a garbage dump. Drug paraphernalia is a huge concern and I am constantly checking the ground after my children take a tumble. Normal awareness of your environment is essential wherever we go, however, to have to be concerned and even fearful at the most historic and beautiful park in Modesto is a shame. We need help to restore this park and our neighborhood into a place that is safe for our families.

As a 5 yr resident of the area (300 Blk of Magnolia Ave) I have witnessed the rise in all these illegal activities and the fall of what used to be the "Crown Jewel" of Modesto. We moved to the area with the intention of starting a family because of the areas beauty and great schools. Now that we have 2 small children we drive out of the area to use other parks with less of the activities mentioned in the petetition or keep them home. The rapid decline of the area is truly disappointing and extremely frustrating on multiple levels. I hope with all of our continued efforts we can have our "Crown Jewel" back as well as our amazing neighborhood in general!

I used to take my children to Graceada Park to play - 35 years ago. Sadly, I would not do so today because Graceada Park is plagued by crime, drugs, prostitution and other illegal activities that make it a less-than-desirable place to visit. Please help take back our park for so our community may enjoy this historic jewel once again.

This summer Parks and Rec did a CSI camp at Enslen Park. The class was wonderful and the best part was all week the dregs stayed away from the park because MPD kept them away.

I would be happy to help clean up the trash and so forth if I am not working on those particular days..
there are so man ways to make it a fun outing of neighbors getting together and helping the City show our spirit for a clean and bright recreational area that has the old time fun and games again. Plan a day, bring a lunch and drink, if need be to share with others, Be sure to wear gloves ,some disinfectant hand cleaner and a good attitude.

Happy to see this. I won't take my grandchildren to the park my kids loved. The risk/unsavory behavior
is out of control.

Please focus more attention on Modesto city parks, notably Enselen and Graceada, so our children have a safe and clean place to play. Other cities throughout California (I.e. Santa a Monica) have strict laws prohibiting adults without children from being in and around public playgrounds. Modesto should consider enforcing these same practices! Our children deserve better. It's really no wonder why so many of our young families continue to leave Modesto for safer towns to raise their children.

How about we keep our parks nice year round instead of only during Concert in the Park or city sponsored events such as Earth Day?
