Being a long time Realtor in Modesto area - this is one of my irritants along with people using alleys for dumping their garbage and un-wanted items. Something needs to be DONE....

As a previous resident living across the street from Enslen Park (on Poplar) I saw it all! Absolutely horrendous and always challenging trying to keep a healthy well being.

God willing, national, state, county and city parks should be kept safe, clean and family-friendly. Otherwise, they are not serving their purpose and become a nuisance/liability/danger zone.

It is well past time to turn this city around. If we do not act now we will become just another ghetto. It is Neighborhoods like the Graceda, Enslen and College area that help form our cities tax base. When the value of these neighborhoods start to decline due to rampant crime, blight and homelessness then the revenue used to fight / treat these problems also declines. This is a death spiral from which few cities recover. I love Modesto, but I have seriously considered moving due to issues like this. I hope we see sustained improvement soon.

I had some friends ask the other day if we could go to Graceada park to train our dogs... we used to do so. My reply - sorry, I don't think it is safe. Needles, petty theft of anything you are not hanging onto, someone vomiting right in front of me, etc. It's a shame.

If the City of Modesto is promoting Graceada & Enslen parks as Historic & Iconic, they need to properly see that they live up to their reputation as this cities "Crown Jewels"!

We've lived just a block from the park for three years now. When we moved here we thought it was great looking park and thought " what a nice neighborhood". After having our cars broken into, our trash cans picked through on a regular basis and having the homeless population taking over the park I'm not so sure this is the type of place we really want to live in anymore. The homeless problem has just spiraled out of control with the police and city apparently content to let this continue. City of Modesto,WAKE UP and do something!

First, I want to personally thank the organizers of this petition. Community involvement and advocacy is the key to our neighborhood well being. Secondly, I wish to encourage all to attend the special meeting (College Area Neighborhood Association) at "The Boy Scout Club House," located in Enslen Park on Thursday Sept 8th @ 6pm. We moved to this neighborhood from out of state because of the tennis courts. We have experienced many different community courts. These are without doubt, the worst we've ever seen.

The homeless in the area make it unsafe, I've run people off my patio that where trying to use my hose to shower with out permission. This was within a few weeks of us moving in. I was informed things like this where common place Enslen park and gracedea park are less safe because of those individuals. It's. Otherwise a matter of compassion it's a matter of the safety of the residents in the area.

Rene Zocchi: no addicts live on my property. There was an old lady that once lived in our tank house that we found out was using meth, and she was kicked out, she has since died. A veteran of color was kicked out for the same reason and he has gone back to Flint Michigan to die.
Rene, there is bad blood with your family. Your grandmother Jesse Rowe was a great person and owned your house when I bought my property next to it in 1988. I am sorry my property was once owned by your family (your mother) and lost to the bank when your mother couldn't make the payments. But it is not my responsibility. This house and buildings were built without proper foundations and are old and kooky but we have fixed them up and continue to do so.
I am sorry your house has been vacant for over a year, I am sure the homeless are bitter about that too. Your mother owned your house and used what I think is an unqualified builder and tweaker to remodel, over a long period of time often working in the middle of the night tweaking things. It seems to me and others that your mother who owned your house, diverted money, workers, or material from a nonprofit womans program she was manager of, and overimproved the house for the neighborhood and had difficulty selling it, and blame me. It is not my responsibility. Yes we try to help the homeless and even added an outdoor shower for them. Our tankhouse was moved and built with a permit despite your claims otherwise. My wife runs a tight ship here and it is a closed campus. Yes we have some old construction workers that can't find jobs living here. We do not tolerate any illegal behavior by anyone. These people do not cause problems or they would be gone. We have had things stolen too, but find having people around helps keep things secure. My wife found some of her stolen jewlrey in your garbage can when your house was last emptied.
