There is no educational benefit to having an iPad in the classroom. My 6th grader and friends watch South Park at school. With all of the studies showing the negative effects of screen time, why are our schools promoting MORE screen time?

I would support no IPads or laptops district-wide except in designated computer science or the few classes that absolutely require technology. Teaching children how to think does not require a screen and it would be much better for them if the screens were removed from their learning environment.

Both of my children at the middle and high school level have expressed frustration with iPad learning/assignments. The learning deficits must be addressed, and most importantly the harmful social, and emotional consequences.

I'm not happy about the use of Ipads in classrooms. I have a 5th and a 6th grader, and I see no true digital learning taking place, just print lessons adapted for the ease of grading + the ease of delivery for the teacher. The static PDF ebooks that are adopted are disappointing---dull delivery, poorly formatted, and difficult to access and search.

Most comments pretty well sum up any points I would add. It is impossible to look around and not see the negative effects tablets and screen time has on kids, and in most cases, their use doesn't promote learning, but instead hampers it, whether behavioral or academic. There are reasons tech leaders, such as Gates and Jobs, have severely limited their own kids' access to smartphones and tablets, with strict no-use before at least age 13. Misuse by both students and teachers would be a major concern as well, and the district has not shown it has a handle on monitoring usage.

I have seen the effects on student behavior when the iPad use has been diminished. The students were much less prone to outbursts and temper flares.

When iPads were rolled out to 5th graders to take home with them, the default setting was no parental restrictions, and there was no communication to notify parents about that. That is one small example of the bigger picture. iPads are not being used how they should be in a classroom setting, and internet safety is not being taking seriously. Until significant changes can be made, I support no ipads in the classroom.

Eanes ISD - Please hear our concerns! This goes beyond elementary school. My twin middle school children regularly report students repeatedly playing games in classrooms. Several of these kids know how to unlock images, etc. I feel fortunate that, thus far, my kids haven't viewed pornography (that I know of) on school-issued devices. The district needs to finally take action and listen to concerned parents!

Fully support the non-LEAP classroom (classroom without iPads) for the 2019-2020 school year. This should include all elementry, middle, and high schools.

Agree that there is very little need for an iPad at elementary level. Currently it's used for testing which makes test taking unnecessarily difficult as reported by my kids (try doing a reading comprehension test with a small screen where you have to go back and forth from the question to the text by switching screens, or doing a math test where you can't write next to the problem) and is also used as a "reward" which encourages time wasting on screens. Support iPad free classes.
